T410s GPS and Windows 7 sensor driver framework

2010-09-01, 22:42 PM

Hello,

I'm just wondering if there's a way to make my T410s GPS to show up in Windows 7 Locations and Sensors? Currently it seems that the GPS enable application is pretty much the only app capable of taking advantage of GPS chip and I would like to expand the use of it.

I guess that you two do not have the latest drivers for the GPS chip. I have a T400s and the GPS shows up as a Windows Location Sensor.

I think I do, it is not long since I loaded one from Lenovo support site. The version number that's reported by Thinkadvantage GPS is 2.60... is there something new / else available? I really haven't been able to get my location anywhere else than Thinkadvantage maps...

It sounds as if you have not enabled the GPS sensor in Control Panel "Location and other sensors". v2.60 is fine.

At least in my case, I don't have the option of "enabling" the GPS in the "Location & Sensor" control panel, as it does not show up.

I'm also using v2.6 of the Lenovo GPS driver, and the Thinkvantage GPS control panel works perfectly.

I just tried:

  1. Uninstalling the Lenovo GPS
  2. Rebooting my laptop
  3. Re-downloading the Lenovo GPS v2.6 driver
  4. Re-installing the GPS driver
  5. Rebooting

Same problem: the Thinkvantage GPS control panel works, but the GPS does not show up in the "Location & Sensor" control panel.

There really is nothing to enable. The location and other sensors controlpanel applet simply does not see the GPS sensor (the list is absolutely empty and there's no way to get anything to come up there). I think it's a driver issue, the Lenovo driver is just not working as it should... and ofcourse, it would be great if Lenovo would fix it.

You need to be aware that if you have a Windows 7 Weather Gadget installed, it will take over the location sensing function and pretty much block access to the WWAN card GPS function..........

Cheers,

Bill

If the gps is NMEA, my generic Windows 7 driver will work.
