T410s - What happened to the fan?

2012-01-10, 5:53 AM

Hi everyone,

The fan in my T410s had been very noisy until several days ago. I touched the keyboard area above the fan and it was really, really hot, so I shut down the laptop. When I switched it back on, I saw "FAN ERROR" on the black screen. I decided to shut it down again and turn it back on. Then it booted as if normal - everything as usual. However, I noticed immediately that there is NO LONGER any fan noise, and what's more, I don't feel any hot air being forced out of the case where the fan is located. Other than these 2 things, everything seems to be normal.

What has happened to the fan? Does anyone know? What should I do?

Thanks a lot

download the software from above. You just need to install it. And leave it in BIOS mode, then check the RPM value of the fan versus the Temp of the CPU.

your fan has probably stopped working. Do you have TPFancontrol installed? you can check whether the fan is working by downloading the application from the web.

Thank you, lead_org, for taking time to reply. I just got back my laptop from Leveno warranty unit and they told me that the fan wasn't broken but was too dirty, so they removed all the dust.

Could you please show me how to configure TPFanControl for T410s? I have searched all over the forum and I saw the thread on this, but it is for T420, for example.

I don't know what value to assign to different things, and actually I don't know each of the items on the TPFanControl panel mean.

Could you please help?

Thanks a lot

Thank you, lead_org. I have installed the software as you recommended.

So I should always run TPFanControl whenever I use the laptop? Or you use it only when I supsect there's something wrong with the fan?

How can I know from TPFanControl that something's going wrong with the fan?

Sorry for these silly questions. I am a student and I am using my laptop without knowing much about technical things.

you should only run it when feel the speed of the fan is not adequate for keeping your laptop cool. But i usually use it to check my fan is working or not.
