T410s not starting up, the screen remains blank

2015-01-27, 3:39 AM

Hi,

My working 410s laptop is not starting up. The power button turns green when i press it but nothing else happens, it stays like this forever. No POST message, no BIOS screen ... nothing. The power button stays green however.

I googled about it, and removed the battery and 'discharged the static' by pressing power button for 30 seconds. After that when i press the power button, it turns off after a couple of seconds. I think that is the right behaviour? But when I plug in the AC power cable, the original problem returns, the power button stays on but the screen is black and no other actiivty seems to be happening in the laptop.

Please help.

Hi Xkcdcode,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with No POST on your ThinkPad T410s.

  1. Is there any beep sound when you switch on the system?
  2. Have you checked removing system memory & CMOS battery once?
  3. Check connecting external monitor once is there any output from that.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Can you hold a flashlight up to the screen and try to boot it?

No, there are no beeps whatsoever. I've tried removing the RAM but no
change. I don't know how to remove the CMOS battery, I couldn't find how to
do it in the maintenance manual.

If your motherboard makes no beeps when all of the RAM is removed, then chances are it's toast.

Removing the CMOS battery is on page 111 of the PDF here:
