T420 WIN8 Battery Problem caused by Ricoh Card reader Driver

2013-01-28, 9:14 AM

Hello,

I got a big Problem with my T420! When i install the Ricoh Driver for the built in card reader it starts to use a permanent 30% of cpu Power. The battery drains in 1.5 h.... normaly it lasts at least 3 h!

If anyone got a solution for this would be great!

It is the newest driver version from the lenovo website and the system is complete updated.

Hi

Welcome to the community.

As per your concern battery drains, while installing the Ricoh card reader driver.

To diagnose, I would suggest you to please update the Power Manager software and Bios of your system from the below mentioned web link.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

Afterwards, please restart the system and check if the issue gets resolved.

Regards

Sameer

Re: T420 WIN8 Battery Problem caused by Ricoh Card reader Driver

I have exactly the same problem. Has anyone found a solution for this?

As soon as i started using windows 8 i noticed one cpu core being used at its max by proccess called "System" in task manager. When i took a closer look with Proccess Explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx) I found "risdxc64.sys" running like crazy and draining battery. My temporary fix has been to uninstall ricoh drivers - whitch works well.. but whenever i need to use Card reader i am forced to install them again.

I just did a clean win8 install and this issue popped up again - i have installed all updates from microsoft and lenovo.

If anyone is willing to help i would be happy to provide more information about the problem.

Anyone?

I just realised I don't have to uninstall drivers, disabling card reader from device manager works also.

T530 and Windows 10. Very poor battery life. Always using 30% cpu and ALWAYS the reason is ricoh driver.

This Ricoh piece of s*it is driving me crazy. I don't need the **bleep** card reader so I uninstall it from device manager and also select delete drivers. CPU usage drops to zero.

However it keeps coming back randomly on boot. So I go to bios and disable it completely and delete again from device manager.

BUT IT STILL keeps coming back randomly on boot.

What the hell is wrong with the card reader / driver? Should I open my T530 and solder the card reader out?

I really seldom get frustrated with these things but please this is really painful as I have to work on battery quite a lot.

There's a lot of google hits about this but no real solution. I would like to know why on my T530 the thing keeps coming back as no one writes about this, all seem to get rid of the issue by simply disabling the driver. Mine has to be deleted, otherwise cpu usage doesn't drop from 30%

Click delete driver when unistalling (control panel, system, device manager, uninstall from here)
