T420S - screen resolution change when I unplug the power

2011-11-15, 8:16 AM

I set my display to 1366 x 768 for daily use.  I noted that when I unplug the power, the display will return to the max screen resolution 1366 x 768.  I need to click and change the screen resolution again.  What should I do to avoid from this problem?

Thx.

Do you have the intel driver set to change the refresh rate to 50Hz when its unplugged? If so, maybe it is also resetting the resolution.

Thank you for your hints.  But it is the original configuration.  I don't know how to locate the Intel driver setting screen.  Any advise?  I checked the resolution setting screen and did not find such thing.

The intel setting is at the same page when you choose the resolution, look right hand corner, middle section where it says Advanced Settings.

Use the wizard mode to choose the resolution you want and then see if the same problem occurs.

I have tried to follow Ideasmiths' instruction, but the problem is still there.  That is, when I unplug the T420S power, my original resolution settings (1366x768) will reset back to 1600x900.  Does anyone encounter the same issue?

Hey superkk,  maybe it's me sneaking up behind you and setting the resolution back to what it should be :smileyvery-happy:

Seriously, why do you want to set the resolution to anything but the LCD's native res?  In my experience it just makes things fuzzy - and a little bigger.

There are other, better ways to increase font and icon size, if that's what you are trying to do.

Maybe I just miss the point.  Care to clarify?

hi zoltanthegypsy, thank you for your reply.  Being an old guy, I would say it is hard for me to read a font size = 10 text on a 1600x900 display.  Lenovo does not have another display option (for T420S) to me.  Too bad.

I have tried to change the font size by changing the dpi, but the result is not so good.  I still encounter the problem when I browse a web page which is using 'small' size text.

I think the problem I am facing is the resolution change when I unplug the power.  If it is T420S original design (bug), I give up. .... :smileymad:

Hey, whatever floats your (old) boat :smileyvery-happy:  I'm 62 - does that qualify me as an old guy?

Really, not running at native resolution just isn't pretty - or very effective IMNSHO.

Your browser should have a "minimum font size" option that can keep things from getting too small.  On FireFox it is in tools -> options -> content -> fonts... -> advanced.  That should allow keeping the fonts large without introducing the blur factor.
