T420s - 128 GB SSD - which product?

2011-08-13, 15:05 PM

Hello,

can anyone tell me, which SSD I'll get with my new T420s?

It's an i5-2520m with 128 gig SSD - don't know the proper modell number...

Thanks a lot,

neodrei

I thought I read somewhere the other day somebody got a Crucial with their machine.  As I recall they said it was a C300. If so, that's a pretty good drive.

It's also interesting to note that if it's true, then the Crucial C300 is the first SATA III they are shipping and supporting.

Hopefully it isn't just a rumor.

I think they are shipping inutile models as they clear out back stock. I think you could end up with everything from an older model Samsung (possibly as a 1.8" drive) that they shipped back in the X301 days to something much more modern. Enjoy the SSD lottery.

X1 Carbon 3rd Gen Type 20BT i7-5500U, 2560x1440 (non-touch), Win 10 Pro, 8GB RAM, 512 SSD, Intel 7625 WiFi, BT 4.0 | ThinkVision P24q-10 monitor

I got a Samsung MZ7PA128HMCD-010. Benchmarks show that it's slightly faster than the second-generation X-25M that I used to use.

I have the Samsung MZ7PA128HMCD-010 ... just got it.  (T420s, 128GByte SSD, 4GRAM, Core i7, etc.).

However, I am curious as to how much life / degradation on the SSD's read and write speed over time?

If Windows 7 and the Samsung SSD properly use the TRIM command, there should be no performance degradation over time (until it fails).

I don't know of any foolproof way to see if TRIM is active, but I'll just have to assume that is, because Lenovo sold me this hardware combination.

SSD models you can find here http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/fwss25en.txt I rather bought the device without SSD and bought SSD by my own, to be sure, that i have the SSD model that i really want. After experience with T400s, where for the Samsung SSD in T400s Lenovo never released firmware update with TRIM support.
