Hey there kstrid,

I was wondering if you would have anymore information on these Machines. The 4174 Machine Type is tied to the T420s, but I can't find the model of FM9.  For the T420i, that Machine Type is tied to a regular T420, not the T420i. And again with the model. I'm not finding that specific model of W6S.

Also, what are you going to be using the machine for? Anything in particular, or just general use?

you might want to go here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-service/warranty-status/default.page?

then click the "Parts Lookup" link and enter the model and s/n (if the seller will provide it). it'll tell you how the machines were built, though they may have been modified post-facto.

if you can get the parts lists, post them here (make sure not post any s/n) and we can help you further.

cheers.

to follow up a bit on the model nomenclature...

the "s" is a slim or skinny/thin version of the t420.

the "i", if it follows form from the x220, denotes the i3 variant of the t420 (full size chassis for the model line).

hth a little.

Hey there, I understand how 's' and 'i' affect the machines. I'm referring to the MTM. I can locate the MT of 4174 in the PSRefs, but there is not Model FM9 linked to the Machine Type of 4174.

i understood what you meant by not finding the -xxx part of the m/t number. :smileywink:

no slight to you was ever intended. my post on the nomenclature was primarily for the OP.

cheers.

Not a problem! Sorry if I offended ya with my reply back, I still haven't had any luck in locating anything on those specific models for the machines. I'm still looking though!

no worries, my friend. we're all in the same hunt here. ;)

re: the m/t #s, if the OP can run them at the link i posted we'll get a shot at a much better idea about these two machines.

cheers.

kstrid,

The best option is not to buy Lenovo! fort the double then market price, you will recive the cheapest companents, that you will have to replace the laptop in one year. Doesn`t worth it!

This is not at all true. I have a T400 at home, that I bought new, that is still running beautifully. And they were released July 2008, iirc. So, over 4 years old, and running better than most other competitors new machines.
