So for those who are in the US, appreciate if you can drop me a note on this then I will request them to send a box to you.

First point:

That's exactly why I was also requesting a video or at least some details. If engineers tested machines in "Energy Saver" as "Power scheme" that is not accurate in my opinion. When you're stationary at your desk and do office work and maybe have your local power supply connected, you certainly won't use Energy Saver and don't want your CPU to run at low clock speed all the time. Try loading Photoshop CS5 when the CPU is limited to 900Mhz...

My latest video shows that I'm in "Balanced Power" (don't know how it's called in english), the last power scheme in Power Manager. That would be the setting were working in a quiet environment gets painful with the spinning fan.

The fan has to be working properly anyway what power scheme is used. When the computer is idle when using "Full Power" Power scheme the fan shall not spin more than 2000 RPM, right?

Second point:

Why only people in the US? Isn't there a lab in Europe? I could provide my machine when I get an exchange in the meantime. It's my working tool after all.

Greetings

It's not related to "Energy Star", I'm using E.S profile and suffer from this issue.

@tubwreck,

there are no special instructions, just download the BIOS and execute the exe file. Do remember to reboot before you flash the BIOS.

@Roy,

Yes I am aware that your fan is spinning at 4000rpm and I am sure that everyone posting here is having the same issue as well.

@Dan0,

Good suggestion, will ask them to test other power profile.

We have another lab in Bratislava however we would prefer it to be sent to the US lab as the product engineer (owner of the model) is located there as well.

If there isn't any US volunteers, then will consider sending it to the Europe lab instead.

Is there a separate download for the EC? I don't see that in the list.

Betreff: T420s Fan noise Issue

@ tubwreck:

I used the indications JameZ gave my in some previous post and downloaded the BIOS Update utility and PowerManager separately as my SystemUpdate wouldn't display the latest updates. Well actually the BIOS was updated through SystemUpdate 4 but power manager wasn't.

Erevy thing you need should be on the below links.

Cheers

Same noise problem here! A notebook is an extremly complicated product and there will always be problems, but how can you put a notebook with such trivial and obvious deficites on the market? What's next to come... do I have to check if Lenovo notebooks have a screen or maybe only DOS running on it? I thought we're in 2011....

Same noise problem with the fan - started about three weeks after purchasing this machine.

I put all of my savings (Grad student) into purchasing this computer and just started classes -- I don't have time to send it back or get a loaner.  Come on Lenovo - get your **bleep** together on this one and give us a fix!

I have a T420 and we constantly HWinfo shows around 3520 RPM. I loaded Power Manager v3.62. I wonder if this is okay. Thank you.

@JameZ

I am based in San Francisco, CA, US. I am having the same issue and I have upgraded to the latest versions of BOIS and powermanger. I have a T420s with i5-2520 and SSD.

I am willing to ship my laptop out if it helps fix the issue.
