Re: T420s Fan noise Issue

No matter stuck at 4000RPM or non-stuck, the fan itself has problem, only 4 levels (~2000, ~3500, ~4000, ~4600) and noticable noise when >=3500RPM. Be lucky to return the it and get a new fan or just waiting for a new bios with a higher theshold, or using TPFancontrol/ThinkFan. No solid solution, forget it. It's my opinion.

Re: T420s Fan noise Issue

As mentioned, I sent in my T420s and they returned it and claimed there is no fan problem. All they did is run "Heavy Load" for 4 minutes then shut it off. In a separte test, they booted up the computer and then let it sit idle for an hour. According to them, neither of these tests resulted in the fan being stuck at 4000 rpm. Incredbly frustrating, becaues it happens to me all the time after running multiple programs for a few hours.

At this point, I think we need to come up with a guaranteed method for getting the fan to become stuck at 4000rm. Would appreciate if you all could make suggestions for how to get the fan stuck- I will then be happy to send my computer back to them with a suggested test to run. We must prove to them this problem is real!

Incredible. Engeneering might be thinking we are here wasting time because we are bored.

Any news on this, @Mark_lenovo, are you following the thread now, since JameZ left?

If there is anyone from Lenovo hearing this, could you report whether having a less conservative fan behaviour (that is, shifting the thresholds up) is being considered or not? Five degrees would be a huge improvement!

Lenovo engineers have already had a faulty machine sent in, which they claimed is not faulty at all. I think it is pretty obvious by now that this will NOT be fixed. Either because theese engineers are beyond incompetent, or because they already know it's a hardware problem and will cost Lenovo alot of money to put it right. So they are stalling, month after month, meanwhile a T430s release is coming closer, and by then all will be good and forgotten. My lesson from all this: after 4 ThinkPads, the next time I feel the urge to spend thousands of dollars on a new Lenovo, I will think of the way they handled this, and then don't! It's a shame Lenovo has become like this...

They could at least increase the thresholds a bit, helping us (and our laptops) to quiet down a bit!

Please do something about this. At least up the thresholds, ESPECIALLY when the nvs 4200 is on. The laptop runs at least 10 degrees warmer on idle when the video card is running (which is all the time using my overly expensive Lenovo dock).

This is so dissapointing... It's like Lenovo have just decided to pretend this issue doesn't exist anymore.

Perhaps if we started writing about the fan problems in the review section on the t420s page something will happen. I mean, if it's effecting sales that might motivate Lenovo to come up with a solution?

In the meantime I'm sitting here with an expensive laptop that sounds like it's about to take off and fly away... :(

<@zarabiuk

You are 100% correct - I was thinking the same just yesterday - with the 430 coming out soon, we are toast.

Pretty sure there has not been a post by a Lenovo Representative in a month (this year?) on this board.
