I see that so many of the T420 and T420s users, like myself, who are experiencing the high fan noise seem to have the nvidia graphics card installed. I wonder if there's a connection...

Not absolute. Mine is integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000, but still gets fan noise when CPU temperature > 45deg. It seems the computers with nvidia are more likely to get fan stuck.  As discussed before, the fan speed is not only related to the CPU temperature.

Re: T420s Fan noise Issue

A few months ago, I got a thinkpad T420s and I noticed the quality of the screen is very bad causing eye strains. Worse than my T61 and T400s.

Now I noticed that the fan is always running at >4000rpm causing high pitch noise. The temperature of the cpu is 47 degree, but the fan is always running at it's maxium speed.

I am a fan of Thinkpad but Lenovo has successfully forced me to buy a Dell or Apple.

What's the problem with Lenovo!

My T420s is simply a piece of junk. Screen is flickering, fan is spinning crazy, ssd freeze sometimes. I know all laptop has some problems, but Thinkpad has all of them.

Some of the T420s panels have a screen door effect, which probably causes eyestrain. None of the other models have such an issue.

Are your BIOS and drivers up to date? The fan bug should have been fixed by now.

That isn't true.  The ThinkPad X1 does.  The T420 does.  The IdeaPad U300s I looked at in the store at Fry's did.

What?? There are 925 posts on this topic  - No, the fan problem is not fixed by any means!

In fact Lenovo is struggling to admit to/address the fan problem.

Are you using Thinkpads, or saling them? A lot of people are waiting for the solution.
