[T420s] Intel Core i5 TURBO is always enabled

2011-12-22, 16:27 PM

On my T420s with a Core i5-2520M processor and the BIOS 1.30, the two CPU cores are always in TURBO mode.

Where can I disable the Turbo mode?

There is no option about it in the BIOS setup?

I am under Linux openSUSE.

If I reinstall Windows, will the configuration from Power Manager stays active after a reboot under Linux?

I don't think so. Windows uses Lenovo power management software and drivers. When you restart and swop to Linux, it would use Linux default power management drivers.

I'd see if there's a Linux thing that will cap the processor.

You can also try setting it to Balanced in BIOS under CPU power management. Balanced only allows up to stock multiplier, but no turbo.
