Hi Kerstin,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear that you are having display issues in your Lenovo ThinkPad T420s.

I would suggest you to connect the system to an external monitor and check if it displays correctly. If it does, probably your LCD panel/invertor/cable had gone faulty. If it comes out the same way on the external monitor, you're looking at motherboard repair/replacement.

Best regards,

Mithun.

Frankly, it looks like the LCD panel is fractured. Your only bet would be to replace the LCD.

Hi,

I too totally agree with ColonelONeill. It looks as if a physical damage happened to the LCD panel.

Best regards,

Mithun.

Betreff: T420s: Strange shape on the screen

Dear all,

many thanks for your answers. I think I know now how this happened - one of my little daughters tried to open the laptop without unlocking it. So the screen broke on the respective corner.

I think it's time for my Macbook now... :smileywink:

Thanks and greetings from Germany,

Frettchen

Hi Frettchen,

Sorry about the screen.:smileysad:

I think Lenovo ThinkPad series has an amazing build quality and the machines are tank-like in durability, always designed to be the business utility workhorse with roll cage, strong hinges etc. I prefer the ThinkPad because I mainly use Windows for the same reason and, I prefer Office for Windows over mac. I would say if you mainly use Windows programs go for the ThinkPad.

I still find them more durable than any other machine. You can always trust the machines and the warranty.

It's hard for anyone else to tell you what you should choose and it's something you have to figure out on your own depending on your requirement.

Thanks for posting in Lenovo community Forums! Please feel free to post back if you have any further issues.

Best regards,

Mithun.

Hi Mithun,

you're right; I'm quite convinced of the quality and durability of the Thinkpad. I use Thinkpads since 12 years now. Maybe it's this long time that makes me feel it's time for a change :smileywink:

I don't know if Lenovo would replace the screen. If this was the case, I'd just repair my current notebook. If I need to buy a new one, I'll try a Macbook and see if it works for me.

Hi Frettchen,

Check your warranty entitlement and see if your system is under warranty and is having accidental damage protection plan along with it. If the ADP plan is included, nothing to panic, the support is going to get it fixed. Else, you have to get it fixed on a chargeable basis.

Use the below link to locate the nearest service provider.

Best regards,

Mithun.

Actually, if you're out of warranty, and feel up to some handiwork, you can swap out the screen for a newer, better model: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Replacing_T430_screen_with_a_better_one
