T420s / T410 ic chip source

2012-09-01, 17:19 PM

Hello, I have two laptops a T420s and T410 with what I believe are blown ic chips as well as a few blown caps, both laptops are dead and the battery charge light doesn't come on when the power adapter is plugged in, both laptops came in contact with liquid they both have burn marks and corrosion around the same ic chip on both boards,

chip "BD41760KVT" as shown in the pictures bellow, does anyone have first have experience with damage in these areas? And is there a place to source this ic chip in the USA? I've found a few china sources but id rather get some from the states if I can, note the last pic is a second location on the T420s where a cap is blown across from the ic chip, thanks in advance.

With liquid damage. There is almost certainly damage you cannot see, like traces around the 64-pin chip.

For the capacitors, you need a circuit diagram, or a working board and a really good capacitor meter to know what you need, but you can probably get them at Mouser. The IC is probably not available in the U.S. and may not be available at all. (Custom made for Lenovo) For the larger IC and the trace repair you will need, you would be better off with a computer-controlled infrared rework station. For the capacitors you can get by with a quartz preheater and a very good hot-air unit. When I move chips, I try to get them from "organ donors" (boards that died for other reasons)

I suggest buying broken laptops on eBay, and trying to assemble a working laptop out of the dead ones.
