OK, if I search from support.lenovo.com, I can see it too. Will test later.

I have now intstalled the 2.5 version and when using the laptop with TPFancontrol on setting 1, it is very silent (about 2480 RPM) I can only hear it when I put my ear right next to the fan exhaustion . So far so good
Thank you Lenovo!!!

I chickened out and just got my X230 which was a comprimize in features. Looks like I should have waited before pulling the trigger. Good luck to T430 users with the new BIOS/fan speed settings.

I've updated the BIOS and the fan is on all the time and noisier than ever.  How do I go back to the previous BIOS setting?!

It seems the fan starts at a higher speed and stays there.

I'm thinking the design of the fan needs a complete overhaul.  It seems to produce a lot of noise when working.

Could it be that you are running one or multiple processes which require you're CPU to work harder and produce more heat?

Please take a look at Windows Task Manager and check for CPU-utilization, also could you download Thinkpad Fan Control and check you CPU-temperature and fan-speed when running in BIOS-mode?

With Kind Regards,

Thanks for the reply, Dodger.

No, all I am running is Firefox and nothing else.  :smileyindifferent:  I don't know why the fan has got even noisier with this update!  I hope it's just me and not everyone else.

It works well for me, at around 2400 rpm; inaudible. At last...

AndyPandy66: Is this the normal fan noise or the whining you hear? There are 2 types of fan for the T430. Mine (after 3 replacements) is with the FRU number 04W3267, a Toshiba product. I guess the whining noise is made by the Delta fan but I'm not sure as I didn't note it.

Do you have TPFancontrol? You migth want to check it and try out the settings. If you set it to Manual 1 and read an rpm much higher than 2500 than there is problem with the stepping.

If it's around 2500 than "only" the fan is faulty.

Are you sure there isn't a process running in the background that is causing high CPU utilization, this afternoon I've had a process which is affiliated to Lenovo Solution Center causing a constant 35% CPU usage. A program (or process) doesn't have to be 'opened' or running to consume system resources.

I really recommend you check task manager for background processes using a lot of CPU power, also, check you CPU temp with ThinkPad Fan Control.
