T430 - T530 Wireless drops

2013-01-01, 14:56 PM

Same issue here T530, Win 8 Pro 64, Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205, 16GB mSATA, no WAN. Wireless drops out frequently (typically when I'm away from machine) and this morning for the first time I got the WAN miniport (Network Monitor) #2 disabled message via the Lenovo Solutions Center.

Got machine new in first week of December 2012.  Several Windows Updates were done on 12/13/12.  Seems the problem started after these updates were made.  I first thought it was a sleep issue, because every time I woke the computer up, I would have this issue.  Then, I suspected a Bluetooth keyboard issue.  I stopped using the keyboard for a few days and did not see any more issues until Windows Update ran yesterday, which installed KB 2756872.

My wireless was dropping out BEFORE this update was done, however, I am only now getting the WAN Miniport message.  If this driver is related to the WWAN that would be installed in lieu of the mSATA, then somehow the driver was either installed or disabled when the Windows Update ran.

martin1000's suggestion here:

has been tried.  The driver rolled back to the 10/7/2011 version 14.2.1.3.  I will see if this solves my issue temporarily until Microsoft can figure out the problem, as I'm confident that this is a Microsoft issue.  I do not plan to do any restores yet in hopes that there will be a software update which will fix this.

Each time my wireless adapter was disabled, it did not see any wireless networks.  Each time, I ran the troubleshooter, which eventually reset the device and it started working again.

Does this sound like what everyone else is experiencing?

T430 - T530 Wireless drops

2013-01-02, 11:54 AM

I have been experiencing similar happenings. Wireless drops out frequently. Each time my wireless adapter was disabled it did not see any wireless networks. Each time, I ran the troubleshooter, which eventually would reset the device and it would start working again.

I ordered the machine on December 4 and it shipped from Hong Cong on December 10. Received it on December 17. I first configured it on December 19. Everything seemed fine and within a day the wireless started acting up. The troubleshooter fixes it for a while, but eventfully nothing worked/s to wake up the radio (rebooting the tool sometimes works). I've performed 3 restores and finally on December 31, I refreshed everything (I do not recommend this because you basically end up having to start from day 1).

Each time I've removed update KB2756872 and I have Windows update set to let me choose whether to download and install them. This update along with four others were originally installed on my machine on December 11 ...It shipped from Hong Cong on December 10??  Now I get a message from Windows that one (1) important update needs to be installed (KB2756872). I figured that Windows has probably fixed this update. Wrong, this update was first offered on December 4 and no mention that it has been changed. The update seems to have something to do with the power management.  I am not installing it until someone confirms that it's not a corrupted updated.

Back to the subject. The troubleshooter resets the Wi-Fi adapter and the machine connects to the internet. Wi-Fi kicks out within an hour or two of when the troubleshooter fixes it. Sometime, if I catch it just as the connection goes from connected to limited, it states that Wi-Fi does not hae a valid IP configuration. The troubleshooter diagnoses it and is able to fix it again. I've printed out the details. I am not a computer expert but what I can gather basically is that the Security and Authentication Failed.  I have access to two wireless IP. One is a Wi-Fi Broadband device and the other is a home wireless router connected to a wired DSL. They both work fine with my other machines (XP and Windows 7). They also work on this Windows 8 Pro OS machine until something in the machine decides it does not like them anymore and shuts the radio off.

I am hoping the Lenovo Staff can get a handle on this problem very soon. I have wasted a lot of valuable time dealing with this problem. I am going to need to use this machine when classes start up again on January 7...the reason I purchased this machine in the first place. I really do like this machine ...has 16G RAM and CORE i7 vPro. It's like driving a Ferrari ...and I think we've all heard stories of how temperamental they can be.:smileyindifferent:

P.S.: I can always connect to IP using the Ethernet cable ...needless to say, that is not a solution.

T430 - T530 Wireless drops

2013-01-08, 15:25 PM

I rolled my wifi driver back to the 10/7/2011 version 14.2.1.3.  I only did this until there is a solution to our issue.  It's been several days and my wifi has not dropped out once.  As far as the WWAN miniport and the other, I still have the LSC exclamation point showing, but at least my wifi is consistent.

T430 - T530 Wireless drops

2013-01-10, 14:26 PM

I have got the same problem on my Thinkpad X1 Carbon.

Clean installed Windows 8 to upgrade from Windows 7 (factory installed) in December. Used Lenovo application to update drivers. Since then. wifi connection keeps dropping, but usually when I run the troubleshooter to reset adaptors etc, it starts working again. Then disconnects every 30min or so. Very annoying!

Thinkpad X1 Carbon 3444 CTO

Windows 8 (64-bit)

Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N6205 - driver v15.5.6.48

In device manager I've got TWO exclamation marks:

- WAN Miniport (Network Monitor) #2

- MbmLowExt #2

Does anyone have any idea what these two devices even are?! The MbmLowExt one doesn't even return many google searches.....

T430 - T530 Wireless drops

2013-01-29, 6:28 AM

Has anyone investigated their wifi connectivity issue with different routers?  I have experienced the issue on my T430s with at least two different router setups, but I have experienced improved reliability on a third network.  I have not had too much time to investigate, but just something I wanted to mention.

T430 - T530 Wireless drops

2013-01-30, 10:00 AM

Hi everybody

I too, bought a lenovo notebook (B580) one week ago with the internet problems you are describing.

I am a teacher at a vocational scool in Germany and told my IT students about the problems. They agreed with me that this problem sounds very strange. But yesterday one of these students (age 18) had the following idea:

I did as he told me and since yesterday my internet has been running perfectly, without the slightest problem:

Go to device manager and do a right klick on your w-lan card adapter. Then choose "options" and then the tab "energy management" (I'm not quite sure if that is the correct English term). Anyway, there you can tell the computer not to allow your w-lan adapter to go to sleep in order to save energy. Remove the tick and that's it. I've done the same for the network adapter. And as I said, everything has been running fine for 24 hours now.

To be honest, if it really is this simple adjustment that should finally do the trick, I think it's really embarrassing for Lenovo not to have found that out on their own.

T430 - T530 Wireless drops

2013-01-31, 22:30 PM

Hey, Ive had this problem for some time now.

To the poster a few positions above me. I also tried to disallow LAN card from powering down when idle to save power. Had that idea ages ago but it doesnt work. Maybe it extends the life but it doesnt work.

It DOES seem like a power management issue though. Whenever I leave the computer and the screen dims and then goes off I come back to the internet disconnected. I have to turn WiFi off and then back on for it to fix itself. Sometimes it doesnt even work and I have to restart the computer.

My Setup:

Thinkpad T430

i5 3210M

8GM RAM

320GB HDD

Windows 8

I DO have a triangle with a yellow exclamation mark next to WAN Miniport (Network Monitor) #2

Updating the driver or running a driver update did nothing.
