T430s-2352 Blue Screen and Stop Code 101 Issue

2012-08-09, 18:44 PM

Hi all,

During one month usage of my T430s, I met four times of BSOD(Blue Screen) and the recent two showed the same error message:

A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval. And the stop code: 0x000000101

Here is the screen shot:

Link to picture

When I use the software "BlueScreenView" to read the .dmp file, it says that it caused by address "ntoskrnl.exe + 7f1c0".

And recent two days, when I use Vmware workstation 8, the playing music suddenly stuck for few seconds and my screen was freezed. I thought the BSOD coming again, so I stop doing everything with my PC but then the music came back and screen was released. I think maybe the CPU is stucked again but not so serious to cause BSOD. But I treat it as a sign.

By the way, after I got my T430s, I have done lots of stability, stress test, including Prime 95, Furmark, MemTest Pro. But none of them gave me problem and my T430s all survives. But the BSOD just happened randomly.

My Config:

i7-3520M with HD4000

8G RAM

SSD

ps. I enabled Intel Turbo Boost before recent two BSOD.

Anyone can help me?

All,

A quick update - a hardware update for optimus models has been introduced into manufacturing yesterday.    So, all pending orders from Lenovo direct whether integrated or optimus configurations will include the update.

Updated service parts are on order, and we are working to make these available to our global service network as quickly as possible.   I am keenly aware of the frustration expressed here and I promise that we are pushing this as fast as we can.

EDIT - 10/14/12  - I'm marking this post as the solution as the integrated graphics models were fixed on 9/7/12 and the optimus models were addressed on 9/19.  (There probably aren't any optimus models built between 9/7 and 9/19)  While we've been phasing in the parts, US service has had parts since end of September and I've re-confirmed stock levels on all the boards twice.  I believe our global service networks are up to speed on this, and our support centers have a tip to aid them on problem determination.  All boards through Lenovo service should now be updated.

Mark

This issue is happening to me too since I switched to a T430s a week ago.  Today, in fact, it blue screened on me 3 times.

I have been searching Google and the forums trying to find an answer, and from reading what others have said with other machines, this is very likely a chipset issue and can be fixed with BIOS.  Since then I've been checking 2x/day to see if our engineering team has posted a new BIOS.  I am hoping that others who are having the same issue will post as well and we can get them to fix it as soon as possible.

Yes. I also waiting for the solution.

Here is another post with same issue: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T430s-2352-Blue-Screen-and-Stop-Code-101-Issue/td-p/824467

But the author said he/she has this issue gone. However, I met a bunch of people with the same issue:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo-ibm/668678-t430s-owners-would-owners-thread-98.html

see #977 post, his issue is solved after the motherboard is replaced. I hope the BSOD is not caused by hardware problem, but just hope.....

You can read posts near the post I mentioned. At least several people met this BSOD with stop code 101.

Very frustrated.

By the way, I had contact lenovo technical support a week ago but they gave up after remote access my laptop and checked drives and OS related things. They ask me to do a CPU and motherboard test..... Just one day after calling them, I got another BSOD again......:smileymad:

I seem to experience this same issue on my T430s. It usually occurs when I play games of League. The problem only occurs when on the AC Adapter. I can tell when the computer is about to blue screen because the game will freeze up. If I unplug the power cord the computer will continue on just fine. The blue screens are rare, only if I play a couple of games in a row (like 6 or 7).

My T430s has an I7, 8gbs of ram, 128gb SSD, and 500gb HDD

Yeah, I also got 2 times freeze up but finally the laptop recover back. However previous two BSOD happend without any freezing, they happened almost suddenly and almost no clue. But I don't know whether they are related with power issue as you mentioned.

tripplec,

I'm not sure that we should jump to conclusion that this is hardware... you might be right, but let's go over the basics before we jump into advising people to return, send in for service, exchange, etc.

All,

Let's go over the basics...

Is everyone running the factory preload, or did they load a clean install of windows?

What version of BIOS?  Is everyone at the same level?

Win 7 - 32 or 64 bit?

How much memory, and is it all factory memory?

Any difference in behavior between battery and AC for everyone else?  Nomnom suggests it only happens on AC ...

Can we collect mini-dump files?

Thanks for your reply. I did a clean install of Window 7 64bit. I installed an Samsung 4GB LPDDR3 1600MHz(my factory 4GB memory is also LPDDR3) ,

this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00591ZYX8/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00

My BIOS version is 1.13, should be the latest version of T430s.

I don't think my BSOD related to the AC since the first BSOD I met happened when I used battery, but following three BSOD were under AC power. I will put my dump file later. Hope these info is helpful to solve the issue.
