T440 HDD Configurations

2014-08-02, 18:29 PM

I am looking to install an SSD drive in my Thinkpad T440 (not T440s), it currently has a 500gb HDD and a 16GB M.2 cache.

My questions:

1. Can I buy a regular 2.5" 7mm laptop SSD and install it in this Thinkpad?

2. I haven't really kept up with HDD technology, I don't understand at all how the M.2 cache fits into everything. Do I have to buy an M.2 SSD?

3. If I can just use a regular 2.5" SSD, can I remove the M.2 cache because it won't be necessary anymore?

I'd really appreciate any explanations or ideas. Thanks.

Any magic required to get a single SSD solution working, or is it just plug and play? Drivers?

Plug & play, no drivers required.
