T440 - SSD identified but not functional

2021-04-16, 9:50 AM

This is an odd one. On normal boot up the message "Media test failure. check cable" is briefly displayed. This is followed by a DOS screen saying "Boot Menu" with the entries: ATA HDD0: LITONIT LCS-256M6S and PCI LAN: IBA GE Slot 00CB v1553. So presumably booting from the SSD is not possible. I ran diagnostics and all passed including the SSD read. I tried re-setting the BIOS back to defaults but no joy. So some questions:

1. Replace the SSD?

2. If so do I have to buy another Windows license?

3. Any other things to try? I am happy to take apart.

Thanks....Simon

Hi TheOldSilverFox!

Welcome to community forums

Did you set the  SSD as a priority on the boot sequence?
Have you tried another SSD?

The Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 OS are embedded on the motherboard.  You can create a recovery media on your end by downloading the ISO file here: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10
