Solution for noisy fan would be the greatest improvement of them all.:)

 I hope that they redesigned complete cooling system.

Some bigger pictures of T440p / T540p / W540 can be seen here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-has-new-ThinkPad-notebooks-for-business-clients.101670.0.html

Lenovo surely did a lot of improvements, yet I don't understand :

1) Why in 2013 configs of profi laptos still starts at 4 GB of RAM? Don't tell me, that it is price issue.

2) No optimus for T440/T440s and honestly GT 730M for P versions isn't good performer at all.

3) IPS screen only for S or P versions so for T440 you are stuck on 1600x900 400:1 TN

4) Why are volume buttons inside keyboard and therefore mostly invisible? There is plenty of unused space around keyboard.

I will be glad, for any reasonable answer :smileyhappy:

@Jakoob,

2.) T440/T440s has the Optimus option if they are equipped with their dGPU (720M for the T440, 730M for the T440s). The 730M is more than powerful enough for business-use and that is no different from the T430/T530 (which use the NVS 5400M, which is basically a rebranded GT 630M).

3.) The T440 is a cheapo T440s and the succesor of the T430u. Its much cheaper and also uses the ULV CPUs. In comparison to the T440s, the T440 uses a cheaper Glass-Fiber chassis rather than Carbon-Fiber-Hybrid/Magnesium chassis, a cheaper plastic version of the new ClickPad (Mylar surface rather than Glas like on the T440s), only has 2 USB Ports rather than 3, is slightly thicker, heavier and bigger (no slim displaybezel and also no rubber lip around the display), has a slower GPU and is stuck with the 1600x900 TN display.

4.) The space is used inside of the notebook. Dedicated volume controlls would require a bit of space inside for their own "button-board" (which is not there) and the stability would suffer. The new design is cleaner, there are less possibilitys for failures and cheaper for Lenovo.

all T440/s/p models have the new DockinPort at the bottom of the system.

@ibmthink

Thanks for the explanation, I was confused with availability of optimus, because right now it is not listed in Lenovo sheets for Europe nor for US.

With graphic card I was hoping for more powerfull model like GT 750 M or some cheapest Quadro (like K1000M). It seems to me, that Lenovo is always in case of dedicated graphics making bigger comprise, than needed.

I consider Thinkpads X, T and W as ultimate machines, so it is quite suprise for me to see T440 branded as "**bleep**ty" version.

Volume somewhere in keyboard is maybe cheaper for Lenovo, but do we really have to accept that on laptop for 1000 Euro or even more? The new keyboard is better in typing, but the layout is horrible.

Since when is the T series considered "value"?   If this is how the T series is actually being viewed by Lenovo in their decision making, that's a critical problem.  Making the T series "value" means making it unnecessary.  We can go get "value" options for far less anywhere.  T series considerations should never be about value but rather what serious users require and desire.  This would explain the terrible touchpad button design decision though...

Let me guess - you aren't involved with corporate business laptop provisioning then!

Nope, am not.  Then again, all the Corp people I know (I work in one with a $B+ IT shop) don't buy Lenovo notebooks.  Rather, they buy more cheap options.  Perhaps that's Lenovo's idea here, make the T series cheap so as to get more contract wins.  Highly strange logic when they have so many more notebook lines that already fit that bill.  What, do they think slapping a T moniker on a cheap notebook is going to fool enough IT shops that it matters cheapening the T series line that their fan base will be aware of?
