T440p: Plugged in, not charging - Windows 10 Pro

2017-09-18, 5:58 AM

Hello,

I have reinstalled Windows 10 Pro with the ISO image from Microsoft. I had to, because after installing Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings from Windows Store and updating all the drivers (and 2 BIOS updates), my computer stopped working.

Now my computer runs on clean Win 10 Pro and with the latest Business branch updates only.

Yesterday the dreaded "Plugged in, not charging" problem has started (I've experienced it before on my TP E430 and I had to change the battery there).

The battery is stuck at 79%. I emptied the battery two times, but it didn't help.

Any ideas what I could to? I'd appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Hi, @richk.

Thanks for posting.

I now don't have any Lenovo software installed, since more often than not, it only caused trouble (maybe because of my specific setup - 2x SSD, BitLocker and SSD HW encryption, 16 GB RAM - 8 GB original, 8 GB Kingston).

I've downloaded Win 10 Pro ISO, reinstalled the machine, and now I use the drivers that are available via Windows Update only. This way I always experienced the most stability and error-free operation.

I was able to solve the issue today by following these steps:

1) Unplug the laptop and remove the battery.

2) Plug in the laptop (without the battery), turn it on and use it for 5-10 mins.

3) Shut down the laptop, unplug the power cord, insert the battery, plug in the power cord.

4) Start the computer.

The charging resumed to 100%.

I hope this'll help to some else, too.

Look in Lenovo Settings under Custom Battery Threshold.  I have mine set to charge whenever the battery falls below 75% and to stop at 95%, in order to make the battery last longer.

Hi,

Same problem,

tryied same thing, but still not charging ...

I'm runing on "Laptop that can't move because nmo battery" as as soon as I plug the battery in, the AC is set aside.

Exact;ly as with WiFi and RJ45, as soon as I plug my RJ45, the WiFi is off, and that's good,

But not fo rthe AC :(
