Re: T440s losing wifi connection

Again, this is happening to both Realtek and Intel NIC owners.  In fact the OP had an Intel NIC in his.

The problem with the Intel card was just a driver problem and has been solved since long.

Again, the design is not faulty. My T440s connects perfectly. Its just the Realtek card, which are bad.

Intel's been fumbling with the driver for the 7260 for a while.

As for Realtek, the RTL8192SE on my X100e absolutely cannot hold a connection in any sort of noisy environment (lecture hall with lots of other laptops). It's possible they've improved in the intervening five years though.

Re: T440s losing wifi connection

2015-03-04, 20:05 PM

I have found one solution that stops my T440s laptop from dropping WiFi connections.

However, before you scream that this is not a real fix, I will admit that the solution is not the best or preferred but it has worked 100% for my T440s that kept dropping the WiFi every 5-10 minutes and should work for others.

Solution: Remove the battery and run on the AC charger.

I tried all the suggested 'update drivers', 'reinstall this/that' and 'confirguration changes' with no success. After reading all the other posts on unreliable WiFi I have come to the unofficial conclusion that the systemic issue is with the plethora of power saving apps and software that comes with the laptop. I first noticed that when the batttery got low the WiFi would consistently cutout. There are power settings that do turn off the WiFi and I found that changing these settings lessened the occurance but did not eliminate the problem. But because of the many options between the standard 'power plan' app, the Lenovo 'Power Manager' and probably others it was difficult to determine if I changed all the settings that could turn off the WiFi. Unfortunately the problem still exists when I put the battery back in, even with the AC charger plugged in.

Since removing the battery eliminted the WiFi loses it seems pretty apparent that the problem is directly associated with the power control software. It would be a great help if someone had the knowledge and time to identify and document all the places that the power control software can shut off the WiFi. A work-around to the issue could then be posted that indexed the appropraite power settings that everyone could use to prevent the WiFi outages.

I had same problem with Lenovo T440 wifi connection problem. I have two T440 laptops. I have updated wifi driver to 17.0.2 in one and 18.21.0.2 other laptop. Both are working perfectly from past two weeks. without a single glitch.

Thanks to these two versions of drivers, big problem is solved. It has solved two problems for me, one connecting to wifi network other connection drop.

"Intel's been fumbling with the driver for the 7260 for a while."

LoL, NS.  They've got the same issues with the 7265 and 8260, now, too.

To be fair, though, I think that their manufacturing locations turn out some really inconsistent quality parts.  Some revs work, some seem problematic.

All other things being equal, the same part number on one PC will just work, and on another it will drop connections, ping spike, fail to find networks, or never get above single-digit connection speeds.

Re: T440s losing wifi connection

2018-02-15, 6:33 AM
This has been a problem now for years. I have learned to deal with it as the WiFi would drop maybe 4-5 times a day.

I do spend many hours per day for normal and business stuff, so thought maybe using it for 8-12 hours a day this was the cause.

My biggest mistake with this was when i sent it back 9 month from the time I bought it and the warehouse said all is fine.

anyway a few weeks ago I had hit a brick wall when it started to drop WiFi every 5-10 mins
at that point I couldn't do any work on it. I would be in the middle of something and WiFi would drop and could save what I just worked on.

So I decide to go to a Lenovo repair shop near me.
The guy has been great in the past so I figured why not go back to him. Plus he's a authorized lenovo repair shop.

I had in my mind from the start that it was the intel wifi card causing the problem, so i told him I want a new one.
I have had new laptops in my home and they never dropped any wifi. I have taken my T440s away and if I needed to use the Hotel's wifi, no problems. or in other cases I would just use my Sierra wireless card I had built into my T440s because I usually do a lot of traveling.

anyway he checked a few things, order me a new Intel Dual band wireless AC7260

picked up my machine when done, took it home and after one day, it started again.

Took it back to the shop, he ran more test, thought it might be something with Windows 10
* this was a Windows 8.1 with the win 10 upgrade they were giving out.
This because out of the blue on re-boot I would get an error message that windows can not restart and you needed to find a recovery point.

Anyway, he did that. Updated drivers again, keep it for 3 days running it for 8 hours a day and looked like the problem was fixed.

But Not so fast... Everything was fine until 5 days in of having it back. It's dropping WiFi again !

Not as bad as before, it first started out slow
once a day ( I could deal with that ) but then it was 1-2 times a day, then 3-4 times, and Today...
Today every 5 minutes or so.
I did have wifi at one point tonight for about 3 hours straight , then while i was writing this post it dropped.

again not as bad at it's worst. because I use to have to find my Wifi link and times it wasn't there.
Now i just have to click on the wifi icon, close wifi, click wifi back and there's my wifi to re-connect.

Still this has been such a pain, and like others have said, for the money I paid, we shouldn't be going through this.
I can pick up any laptop in Best buy for $500+ and it will not drop the wifi

Thinking and wondering if I sent this to Lenovo Warehouse to get it fixed, would they do it ?

Will they charge me an arm & a Leg ??

Did this ever get resolved? Going through this issue with a T440 I recently bought. Sometimes it constantly disconnects, other times it can go for hours without a disconnect. Have an x201 that loses wireless entirely for days, then suddenly it works again for weeks and starts all over again.

Think I may have found a solution.  Turning off Fast Start in Windows 10, haven't lost a connection since.

Had the same problem.

Used a lot of drivers (from lenovo support, intel drivers etc.) - no effect

Resolution for me (at this moment):

- Delete all lenovo drivers for Bluetooth, WiFi and Intel PRO 1000 NIC

- Disable all power function which wiil enable powersave for Wireless connection.

- Disabe Windows fast start.

- Roll back to standard Windows 10 drivers

I use - Windows 10 with updates, 802.11 b/g/n router.
