T440s - removable battery is not charged

2014-04-07, 10:43 AM

Dear All,

I found today that my T440s is not charging removable battery.

When I click on battery icon on the Windows tray, the system shows 100% charged (in-built battery is fully charged), but no information about removable battery (2 days ago 2 batteries were mentioned)

Lenovo Battery shows two batteries, but removable battery status is:

Status: No activity

Remaining percentage: 0%

Remaining time: -

Remaining capacity: 0.00 Wh

Full charge capacity: 25.51 Wh

Current: 0.00A

Voltage: 7.38A

Did I change some power saving settings accidentaly and that's why Removable Battery is not charged?

Where should I find it?

Thank You in advance :)

Yep, it was no problem before. Just to inform You, today it started to charged again.
I open the notebook cover, Win7 has started and I looked that system is charging removable batter. Don't know what is going on.

There is nothing related to bay battery on the changelog for current UEFI BIOS and ECP (2.24 and 1.09 respectively) on the T440s. However, on the changelog for the T430s there is an entry that describes your issue, so I would expect an update for the T440s soon:

- Changed discharge threshold of bay battery to SOC 5%, to avoid system from
  losing communication with bay batteries.

Hi all,

at last week I bought ThinkPad T440s with battery high capacity FRU 45N1738 and I think battery is bad (or BIOS), because battery not charged to 100% and always show 35%, after disconnect power cable battery not discharged (see screenshorts first and second battery)

it might have been funny if it were not so sad

I would check to see if the battery is seated properly, in addition I would check the device manager.  You should see two batteries

Sounds to me like you have a dud battery.  I would activate my warranty and get it replaced.

BTW you can check your power settings under Control panal/power options.

My "not charging story" has happened only once. Now everything works fine. Maybe it was some software issue.

Have had a similar problem, with the machine reporting that AC power was plugged in but neither battery charging. After some messing about, leaving the power unplugged to discharge the batteries a bit, it suddenly started charging again. No explanation from Lenovo Support, but I'm wondering if this is a battery firmware issue.

Hi,

1. I just ran my windows updates, and im not sure what was in this update, but suddenly my battery charfe went from 55% to 2%, i looked into my battery setting i saw that my external battery is not detected.

I unbluged, and held the power button for 15 secs, restarted the computer, still no battery.

then i updated my BIOS, still not detecting it.

in the lenovo vantage, the status of my 2ndry battery is " no activity"

is there a way to fix this?

2. I noticed recently my secondary battery only charges to 80% only, how can i change this?

thank you very much, without my secondary battery i have to plug my laptop in every 50 mins.
