T450S MultiMon support with ProDock

2015-07-09, 17:01 PM

Hi.  I've got the T450S mated to the Pro Dock series 40A1.

I cannot get the Pro Dock to work with two external monitors when using the Display Port.

Dual Monitors work when using the VGA + DVI-D combination, but when connecting a monitor using the Display Port, it shuts off the displays to the other monitors connected with either the VGA or the DVI-D connections.

So, VGA + DVI-D = Dual Monitors.

Display Port = Single monitor only.

Is this by design?

I've already updated the firmware to the recommended version based on other threads.

Thanks.

Hi Dale1,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Did you check with updating the Graphic drivers from Lenovo support site?

Also check the BIOS if display is set to Nvidia Optimus, if the system is shipped with additional graphic card.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Hi and thanks for the reply. This system is showing in device manager that the display adapter is an Intel HD Graphics 5500. I also recently updated the driver on the Lenovo site and the current version is 10.18.14.4206. Driver date 4/29/2015.

Hi Dale1,

Have u tried different mini display adapters / different HDMI cables / different TVs as i did?

Connect the system to the dock and run ThinkVantage system update utility and install all the drivers and application shown in that.

Can you please provide me the system MTM (Machine Type Model) number which will be available at the bottom of the system?

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Hello. I've done everything that you've suggested and the result is still the same. All BIOS and Pro Dock firmware has been updated as suggested by the ThinkVantage System update. After all that, as soon as I connect a monitor to the Display Port, the Pro Dock shuts off the output(s) to the other display using the DVI-D port leaving me with only a single monitor solution.
No, I've not tried any other adapters because the adapter I have works just fine. I don't believe that I should have to spend more money to buy additional adapters.
Also, there is no Machine Type Model number on the bottom of the system so I can't provide that to you.

Hi Dale1,

It is very sad to hear that the issue still persist in your system, can you check what will be the result if we install Windows generic driver. To install generic driver you have to uninstall the currently installed graphic driver.

And also check with updating the hot-fix from Microsoft?

I think the MTM number may available under battery, can you check removing the battery once.

EDIT : Refer the below link, it might be helpful.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Thank you for your diligence in trying to help, but if you work for Lenovo, can I ask you to do the testing that you are asking me to do as a customer? It should not be this hard to get two digital displays connected to this Pro Dock and makes me think that this should have been tested way before ever being shipped to a customer.
My MTM which you are requesting under the battery is:
MTM: 20BW-S01M00
S/N: *
Pro Dock Series 40A1.
With this info, you should be able to setup a test in a lab to try and reproduce this. Is this something that Lenovo can do?
Thanks again.

Hi Dale1, I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you and I apologize for that, there is no such issue on the compatibility with the dock. But this kind of issue occurs if there is some error with registry file with Lenovo graphic driver, so I suggested to check with Windows generic driver or you can also check with reinstalling the Operating System. Regards Hemanth

Dale1: You are not the only one. I am exactly in the same boat as you are. I've T450s Laptop (ThinkPad) - Type 20BW with Machine Type Model: 20BWS05T00. I am running on 64 bit latest Windows 7 OS. I have latest BIOS etc. that Lenovo Service Bridge has to offer. My system is upto date.

I am using two of Lenovo ThinkVision LT2452p monitors.

I have *exact same issue* with my ThinkPad Pro Dock 65W 40A1 (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd029622#Pro%20Dock)

I checked the reference manual (https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t450s_ug_en.pdf) but does not say anything what we are experiencing so I think this is not by design.

I think it would be worth our time to avoid using Display Port. DP is supposed to deliver the best results I know but VGA gets the job done so I would not spend any extra breath on this that I have to.
