T460(S) and Windows 10 2004 / 20H2

2020-11-19, 1:12 AM

Hi. I have a T460S. According to Lenovo

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht511260

the T460(S) has not been tested for Windows 10 20H2 (or 2004).

  • How should T460(S) owner interpret this?
  • is the T460(S) out of support for new Windows versions?
  • are we to believe Lenovo WILL test T460(S) for both 2004 and 20H2 and subsequent versions?
  • is it safe, just not Officially Safe, to install 20H2 on a T460(S)?

Any guidance/feedback greatly appreciated (on behalf of all T460 T460S owners I bet)

Thanks

Hi Jay, did you try this update?  How did it go?

@onix Haven't tried forcing 2004 or 20H2.  I keep checking windows update and nothing is available.

I was looking to this forum community for guidance what to do.

Hi Jay,

I updated my T460s to 20H2, specifically build 10.0.19042 (Build 19042) mainly because I was having issues connecting to VPN using Microsoft's built-in L2TP/IPSec VPN.  The update did not fix this issue.  I have been experimenting with other things, and whether through some fault of my own or because of the version I'm now on, my bluetooth connection to my Apple AirPods connects and disconnects within a few seconds.  I have not been able to fix that.  Mostly other things seem to work OK, with not much recognizable change... I was hoping it would fix DPI issues for things like Quicken, etc. as that seems to be work in progress with every new version of Windows 10.  So no noticeable improvements after being on it for about 5 days.

What I really need to do, is a fresh install 20H2.  Perhaps, you can try it, and we can compare notes.  At least, we won't be dead in the water.

The BT issue was fixed with a reboot.

On an additional positive note, this update fix my slow boot with a USB-attached DisplayLink monitor (ASUS MB168b+).  It was a bug introduced in Win 10, two versions ago.  Boot times were more than 2 minutes, now they are back down to a respectable 30 seconds from a full shutdown.

I was planning to use this thread to install Win 10 on my T460 Thinkpad (Type 20FN bought in September 2016) but in recent Health Scans, the internal battery test has failed. The quality shows "Poor." Is it worth trying to revive it or should I get a new Lenovo? If so, which one? Thanks.
