Re: T460: Windows 10 freezes when screen switches off while running on battery

For those that the power config reset didn't work, I fixed this today on my E480 - might be a similar fix.

I downloaded these 3 drivers from the support website (I'm not sure which one fixed it and installed them. (Lenovo Vantage said I was all up-to-date)

Lenovo Power Management Driver, ThinkPad Monitor INF file, and Intel Chipset Device Software.

And obviously rebooted afterwards.

Hope it helps someone.

For people with similar issues I just want to say: Don't worry, it's 99.99% a software failure and not a hardware failure. That is, you need to tweak a bit with drivers, e.g. install the newest Windows 10 drivers, but maybe more important the drivers that Lenovo Vantage suggests to you.

actually, the issue came back after a day. This is not a solution either.

Re: T460: Windows 10 freezes when screen switches off while running on battery

Success! Since somewhere around Mars-April 2019 I've only had one(!) single hiccup (and I run my laptop almost every day). Around this time I was about to return my T480, but I remember installing a bunch of updates from Windows 10 and Lenovo Vantage which fixed it, and as I said after that: only one hiccup. Can't remember what I was doing exactly but this was like 2 monhs ago that the screen (i.e. not the laptop itself) entered powersave mode and never came back on (so a hard reboot was necessary). This time I didn't loose any work so it was no drama...maybe I've gotten better at frequently pressing CTRL+S from the time this was happening all the time...

The only thing, that I can think of, I've done to fix the problem is to keep the software updated, both Windows 10 and drivers from Lenovo Vantage. But sadly I don't know exactly which driver/update that fixed my issue, so I can't tell you "download this or that driver". But again, I stand firm in my belief that this is 99.99% a software issue, not a hardware issue, which is good news for people still having this issue. My argument being that hardware seldom repairs itself ...
