Re: T460P and M.2 2242 SATA

Z - Thank you for your response... one additional question, I never thought about asking of course, if I Am placing the drive into the WWAN port, does that mean no more WiFi??

If so, then I need to consider getting a 1T drive to replace any drive included in the original system, correct?

Thank you again,

First I have to say that I don't have one of these laptops.  I'm going by what I read up-thread and elsewhere.  Please double-check anything you read.

WWAN = cellular,  WLAN = wifi.  You don't lose wifi if you put an SSD in the WWAN slot.

Thank you for the update and education! Much appreciated.. Any input as to switching out to 1T drive, as I will not be using the cellular card.. then I can install a 256g drive as the boot drive..

Wonderful - thank you again!

Hi Alex,

Have you tried fixing M.2 2242 as boot drive in WWAN in your new laptop. I'd like to konw if this works or not as a boot drive from someone who tried it before.

thanks in advance.

Fahd

Per the Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad T460p page 72 it appears to be the standard M2 × 3mm flat-head  used for  m.2 devices.

Re: T460P and M.2 2242 SATA

I successfully installed a 1 TB Dogfish M.2 2242 SATA . It installed fairly easily, however I had to move the orange and blue WWAN leads (not currently connected to anything) off to the side a bit as per the photos below. I just re-taped them off to the side and made sure the leads were still covered by the already included (from the factory) transparent plastic covers.

I booted into Windows and in the Computer Management I saw the unallocated disk. I created a partition, assigned it a drive letter, and it seems to work great with burst speeds up to ~525 MB/s.
