Re: T460s trackpad issues on Windows 10

2017-06-13, 10:27 AM

Hi Everyone,

I supported two T460s with the same issue and could solve it.

I took a healthy T460s for test purposes and after several tests (SSD switch, Live-USB-stick etc) it was clear for me that it's a hardware issue. The touchpad replacement didn't solve the problem, so I ordered a new keyboard.

TrackPad and TrackPoint work properly together after the keyboard replacement.

Lenovo engineer told me that he has an identical case and keyboard replacement didn't help.

Well... there are a lot of devices with this issue and in my opinion a part of keyboard production-line is just faulty.

Problem source could be defective controller circuit board of TrackPoint.

It would make sense to order another keyboard if the first repair attempt didn't help out.

Good Luck!

Re: T460s trackpad issues on Windows 10

Hey Lenovo,

after a series of System Updates the standard driver by Synaptics does not work anymore. I have the same problem I had last year - even with the newest Ultranav Driver! After using the trackpoint, the touchpad is useless immediately. The cursor is jumping around etc. Can you please solve this problem ? Or do I have to call support for changing the hardware? What shall I tell them?

Regards

I am having the same issue. I have a number of brand new ThinkPad T460s PCs. I image them with a Windows 10 image from last September, and the TrackPad works fine - very smooth. Once I run Windows updates, the trackpad is jumpy and stuttery. Running the Lenovo Companion updates does not resolve the issue. So, it has to be software, not hardware. It's maddening and users are starting to complain.

I'm hoping for an updated Synaptics TrackPad driver to resolve the issue.

Mike

Well, In my cases it was definitive hardware.

I tried out to update the driver and tried out some earlier drivers too. Driver settings didn't help as well. Only deactivation of TrackPoint helped.

Touchpad on the faulty machines didn't work properly with Win10 Anniversary Update, Win10 Creators Update and even if I booted Ubuntu on the laptops using Live-USB stick. I took a healthy machine and switched keyboards. The issue moved with faulty keyboard.

In my both cases the notebooks were brand new as well. The touchpads didn't work properly from the very first moment.

Re: T460s trackpad issues on Windows 10

I noticed some weird issues with mine when setting it up today running Win 10 Pro.  All current drivers through Synaptics and ThinkPad were creating the problem.  Jumping between the drivers it would get better whenever I uninstalled the drivers and get worse again once they were loaded in.  I got it working better but only while logged in.  The problem's still there while sitting on the login screen.  Guessing that has to do with how the drivers or software run.

To fix it, had to go into Mouse Properties -> TouchStyk and crank the touch sensitivy to Heavy Touch.  It gets increasingly worse until it's unusable going towards Light Touch.  It's at least usable and smooth after this for me.

This is with the 19.0.19.1 driver directly from Synaptics.

I agree. It's all driver related. Lenovo and Synaptics needs to get on this. I originally blamed the Creators update but it doesn't matter if it's installed or not - the latest Synaptics driver creates this.

Yesterday I called Lenovo support on this. They said I will get confirmation via mail. Nothing happened so far.

There is an obvious problem with that hardware/driver combination, but Lenovo does not care anymore? Dear staff members, could you please answer? Or is there actually really no idea how to solve the issue?

I have some brand new T460s laptops and I have heard some complaints as well about jumpiness on the trackpads. I guess I will try disabling the trackpoint since most of them just use the touchpad and see how that works.

Wow that is some fine Chinese Quality Control in practice there. I wonder how many of those make it out of every manufacturing run of <insert crucial circuitboard here>.

I'm past all the issues (Jumpiness of cursor when clicking, THREE FINGER SWIPE BEING BROKE AS HECK for back/forward ) on this T460. I tried W10 and it's putrid. I invested more time than anyone ever should have researching and attempting fixes and hacks to resolve it. Time to blow it out and go back to 8.1 where, assumingly from what's been said about three finger swipe, it still works fine.

Lenovo and Synaptics you suck for not fixing these widely seen issues. Give me the Elan touchpad on my Yoga any day over this crap.

FIX PLS KTHXBYE
