Re: T460s trackpad issues on Windows 10

OK, today I changed the keyboard - problem solved! And my original keyboard is the same part/revision like the one on techling's photographies... So it's indeed a hardware issue. Best regards

I just don't know how it's a hardware issue when it works fine until you run Windows Update and then it doesn't work, and when you disable the TrackPoint it works again. That screams software and driver.

Maybe disable automatic device driver downloads? I did that a long time ago out of the box and update drivers either from Lenovo Companion or Intel Driver Update for my components and so far no issues.

For those who are absolutely screwed-over by the latest Synaptics drivers and their ultranav touchpad isn't working, or worse, all of their client's touchpads aren't working, well here is the solution:

Download this driver package http://support.lenovo.com/eg/en/downloads/ds111814

Windows will try to still use the latest drivers though upon restart,  you must then open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), and then Roll Back Driver to the previous version, upon a final restart you should be on driver version 19.0.17.115.

Works flawlessly, even with the Win 10 Creators Update and verified as of 8-1-17.

Onyst-IT - Good call.  Your suggested fix - install the older driver version 19.0.17.115 -  worked for me on my 6mo old T460 when my trackpad became slow and jumpy following a corporate push of Windows 10 Enterprise, version 1703.  While I like the T460 overall, these trackpad issues make me want my old Dell Latitude back.  NEVER had trackpad issues with those dudes.  Considering this is the primary user interface with these PCs, you'd think the Lenovo guys would be all over this, customer experience and whatnot.  Alas, they are not.

Re: T460s trackpad issues on Windows 10

For those still experiencing issues.

The problem appears to be 100% fixable through a motherboard swap. Weird, huh? Yeah. Odd indeed.

If you're looking for a band-aid resolution, then here's the newest verified solution (since the previous solution didn't work for every laptop I tried).

Go to synaptics drivers website and download their generic touchpad driver package (PS/2 & SMBus), it's a large 157 MB archive, and their server is super throttled and download is ridiculously slow some days, but it's worth the wait to download it. I've seen it as slow as 50 kilobytes/sec and as fast as 1.2 megabytes/sec, haha. It can be torture. Good luck. (http://www.synaptics.com/resources)

Open the zip and extract it, go to where it is extracted. Do not run the root setup file, it will just tell you "there's already a newer version installed" and it will abort itself. Instead navigate the folders to the appropriate architecture of your system and run the installer located in that folder. (WinWDF > x64 > dpinst.exe). Your touchpad may STOP WORKING, so you might need to plug in a USB mouse unless you know how to use the keyboard-only. You will need to restart your computer. You will find that this driver-set has a lot less features than the Lenovo set of drivers, but you'll be actually able to use your touchpad and still have two finger scrolling. So in my experience, this has been the best solution, by-far, besides getting a new logic board installed on the machine (which may or may not work in your case!, You might just get another faulty one!)

Hope this helps,

Lenovo System Update tool loaded new trackpad drives last night creating the same jumpy mouse problem. Reloaded the older 19.0.17.115 rev and again fixed the problem. LENOVO GUYS...this is not an isolated problem and it reoccurs with each driver rev. It may be worth your time to fix it. Just sayin'

Re: T460s trackpad issues on Windows 10

Rolling back to the previous driver doesn't appear to be an option for me.  I am on Windows 10 Fall Creators Edition. I experience this trackpad issue running the latest driver (19.0.17.135, Released Jan 15 2018).

If I disable the trackpoint, the trackpad works great.  If I change the driver in Device manager to the Microsoft PS/2 Compatible Mouse, the choppiness for the trackpad goes away, but lose all the advance features of the trackpad.  this is cleary a driver or hardware issue with the TrackPad.  LENOVO PLEASE fix this, and post clear instructions on what needs to be done.  I am seeing this issue on multiple T460s units.

Re: T460s trackpad issues on Windows 10

Paul - FWIW, I use driver version 19.0.17.115 from 2016 which is still available from Lenovo HERE.  Each time corp IT pushes a new driver or Windows update I simply overwrite the newly installed driver with this 2 year-old version and poof, problem solved.  I've been using this workaround for over a year now - including with Win10 Fall Creator's Update - and its fixed the issue each time.

Editorial:  It's disappointing that Lenovo is either unable or unwilling to fix this PITA of a problem.  While seemly small, after using an unresponsive, jumpy, stickly track pad for a few days, one's frustration escelates to a kill-my-laptop-with-fire-and-hate-Lenovo-for-life level.  I've spent 20+ years in product managment and marketing for tech companies. The firms I've worked for would be all over a fix for this but alas, Lenovo has turned a deaf ear to thier customers.

Best of luck bud.

Thanks GoWithTheKilt,

I tested with the 2016 driver today (19.0.17.115), and it still is really choppy on the trackpad. Like the new driver (which is actually 19.3.4.202), if I disable the trackpoint, things get much better.  I have engaged my Lenovo Support team to see if they can assist further.  I will post here if we get to a resolution..
