T470 Mixing ram speed

2019-12-12, 15:24 PM

I bought a T470 with 8meg of ram. I anticipated that it would be DDR4-2133, but it came with DDR4-2666 (RMSA3260ME78HAF-266). I put in the DDR4-2133 without realizing it. So is it alright to run them together? I thought the i5-6300U was limited to DDR4-2133. I did run MEMTEST86 without any issues. Should I buy another stick to match one or the other and if so which would be better? Anyway, ant advice would be appreciated.

Hello ERG4Life,

You are correct the 6th Gen Intel i5-6330U processor supports up to 32 GB of non-ECC dual-channel DDR4-2133 memory ... so 2133MHz is the highest any stick of DDR4 or with grater speed than that wil run.

If all is satisfactory with you than run the 2666.

Edit: Yeah when running RAM sticks of different speeds the slowest one will lower the rest at system post.

I don't really understand the question but I can allways tell you that a DDR4-2666 + DDR-21333 will make both stick running at 2133mHz and it won't cause any problem

I think overall you understood my question. Basically I wanted to know 1) if I could use both ram types together or 2) If I should consider getting a new stick and if so should I go with the 2666 or the 2133. So, from what I have learned so far I think I will use them together with out concern, but I have ordered another 2133 as that is supposedly the limit on a 6th generation Inel CPU. Thanks for getting back to me.
