T470 and M.2 disk at WWAN slot

2020-09-25, 10:31 AM

I am a user of Lenovo Thinkpad T470 20JNS16901 (PF10HCHG) with 256GB TOSHIBA THNSN5256GPUK M.2 2280 NVMe drive (Windows is on it). In the WWAN slot I installed a 256 GB Transcend TS256GMTS430S M.2 2242 disk. The disk is working, it can be seen by the BIOS and by Windows. The disk does not contain any errors. But after a few hours of use, the drive TS256GMTS430S suddenly turns off and is no longer visible to the system. This usually happens with copy, file move, or file rename operations. A similar disk (only 128 GB) in the WWAN slot worked without any problems in the Lenovo ThinkPad E531 even as a Windows disk. Please give me a hint on how to avoid the mentioned situations.

After changing the 256 GB M.2 2240 SSD in the WWAN slot of ThinkPad T470 to 128 GB, the mentioned problems nearly disappeared. The 128 GB disk (TS128GMTS430S) does not disappear from the system as does the larger disk. I will add (however), that even this smaller disk also disappeared from the system once for 3 days of use. But the bigger one disappeared regularly about every 3 hours. Maybe these problems arise from the frequent use of Remote Desktop - it is about connecting the T470 from home to a computer at work.

Maybe after that someone more will be able to tell about my case.
