T470S and eGPU - not recognized

2017-08-17, 16:11 PM

I just got a Aorus eGPU box and hooked it up to my T470s and I get nothing.  Not Thunderbolt 3 notification or any other indication it is detected.

I installed all the updates I could find, but no luck.

Any hints on debugging this?  Also, should any TB3 info be showing up in the Device Manager?

Thanks

I have the exact same setup. I managed to get the Aorus box detected. You have to install all the thunderbolt drivers listed in the lenovo support:

Intel Thunderbolt software for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad T470s (Machine types  20JS, 20J…

Intel Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt Firmware for Windows 10 (64-bit), 8.1 (64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - …

Intel(R) USB3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad T470s (M…

Also make sure you enable thunderbolt in the bios and it's probably a good idea to do the latest bios update.

Nothing thunderbolt will appear in the device manager until you plug in a thunderbolt device. The ports power off if nothing is plugged into them and disapear from the device manager.

My issue now is that the geforce GTX 1070 is detected but it gets a code 12 error because it can't allocate enough resources to it. I've done a DSDT override to allocate a big block of address space in the 36-bit range but I can't get windows 7 to put the device into that range. If anyone knows how to get that to happen on this T470s I'd appreciate the info.

Thanks,

After a ton of updates and troubleshooting I finally got it resolved.   The TB3 cable was also bad, so things are running smoothly, though I still haven't found an amplified cable which works reliablly, powering the laptop and running graphics/usb.

How'd you get it working? I can get the card detected but it won't run because of the code 12 error.

Did you have to do anything special? I suspect the problem for my might be windows 7...

I've tried a bunch of different things and I just can't get the system to allocate any resources to the card.
