T480 Trackpad and Mouse Button Not Working

Hello,

I recently bought a Lenovo ThinkPad T480. After performing the required Windows 11 Pro updates, both the Trackpad including buttons and the Red mouse nub have stopped working.

If I rollback the trackpad drivers by uninstalling them, the trackpad works again. However, after a reboot, the driver auto updates and I'm back with no functions again.

IO have fully check the Device Drivers and everything is updated and appears to be reporting correctly as installed.

Would anyone know how this can be fixed permanently without the need for a USB mouse?

Re:T480 Trackpad and Mouse Button Not Working

Hello stepdeeper,

Welcome to Lenovo Community

I understand that the Trackpad and mouse button stops working on your ThinkPad T480 after the Windows 11 updates.
Let's try to resolve this issue permanently.
-remove all external peripherals
-reload the BIOS default settings
-disable Automatic Driver updates: Open the Control Panel and navigate to System and Security. Click on System and then Advanced system settings. In the System Properties window, go to the Hardware tab and click on Device Installation Settings.
Select No (your device might not work as expected) and save the changes. This will prevent Windows from automatically updating the drivers.
-install all applicable updates (BIOS, drivers and firmware) from the support site, restart once done
Test, observe and update us how it goes.

Best regards,

Re:T480 Trackpad and Mouse Button Not Working

Hello, Thank you for getting back to me. I followed your steps and uninstalled the Synaptics Pointing Device driver. Restarting the system, and the trackpad functions and red nub started working again. Unfortunately, Windows still performed some type of update and installed the driver again. After reboot, everything's stopped working again.

Thanks for the reply.
Based on the steps taken, the hardware is fine, however there is something from the Windows update that triggers the issue.
Is it possible to rollback the Windows updates?
