T480s - Upgrade to Intel Wireless-AC 9260

2018-09-10, 1:22 AM

I have an Intel Wireless 8265 that came pre-installed in a Thinkpad t480s and was looking at upgrading to an Intel Wireless-AC 9260 since they're the same interface and are both 2x2 antennas but I know when i owned previous Thinkpad's, the BIOS had a whitelist. Is this still the case or can I use a Intel 9260? Anyone test/try this yet and can confirm? Thanks!

i did install a intel 9260 into my t480. it had some problems booting (keep restarting) but no message during booting.

so i reset bios to default values and it finally booted. installed drivers and all works fine.

So I got my card, installed it and it did the same thing.. Kept rebooting.. So I reset the BIOS to defaults and now all is well but I noticed an issue and not sure if you ran into this or not, but under CONFIG in BIOS I no longer have Intel AMT options. Can you check if you have a AMT based system and if you still have that option? Thanks!

having some issues with lappy and going with it to service, made me return the inte8265 wifi card. even after updating bios and returning from service, amt option is not there.....

IIRC, isn't AMT the Vpro technology? Did you get the Vpro edition of the 9260? They used to use different naming schemes for the Vpro versions in the past, but that's no longer the case.

How can you tell which one you have though? I ordered the same one boooggy got from the link in MSG 4 but I have no idea how to check if it supports vPro or not.

I've seen some 9260's online that state vPro or Non-vPro but they look identical, there is no marker to determine this.
