Re: T480s touchpad intermittent sluggishness/lag

2019-05-17, 7:20 AM

It's been 5 hours and I've not seen any input lag so far. Amazing.

As promised I went ahead and made an ELAN log anyway. What I did roughly was:

1. Drew a square shape with the cursor repeatedly, moving my fingers quickly from one side of the square to another. In the past with the old trackpad the lagged movements was very obvious as the cursor played catch-up with my finger.

2. Scrolled through some web content using the double-finger scroll.

3. Used the three-finger swipe to switch between windows.

4. Tapped four fingers on the touchpad to bring up the side control bar thingy in Windows 10. Tapped once more to close the bar.

5. Drew some more squares.

Hi, I created such a log while my touchpad was really sluggish.

I tried to aim to something but it is really hard to stop the movement at the desired point because the cursor always move a bit more than I expect...it happens sometimes not all the time but now I finally catched it.

Please check.

I had the same problem,

Send to Lenovo for replacement and then, no more problems.

Thanks for the answer, do you mean you sent the whole notebook back or went to a service center where your touchpad was replaced?

My problem is that I use it for work and it is indispensable for me...

I'm based in Singapore and the engineer came to my office (lobby). He opened the laptop and replaced the touchpad all within a couple of minutes. On-site warranty's fantastic!

Wow, that's nice. :-)

I am in Singapore as well, but I bought the notebook in Hungary.

What is the process? Have you created a ticket, or just mailed/called/whatsapp-ed the support?

In my case, i didn(t have the onsite support, i had to send my laptop to Lenovo.

I opened the ticket by phone, i took 5 minutes, they send me an UPS driver.

Then 3 days later, the laptop came back with the new touchpad.

What I did was first to register for an account on the Lenovo page (https://support.lenovo.com/sg/en/ - "My Account" at the top). Then, register your device's serial number with the account. In order to get in touch with support, I clicked on "Create a Service Request" and on the next page, "Email Support". Fill in the form along with your contact information and you should have a ticket created automatically for you.

If you can't find all that you could try directly emailing aseansg@lenovo.com, though I think Lenovo would much prefer if you went through the steps mentioned above so that your ticket is properly tagged to a device, its warranty and all your contact information.

ELAN checked your log and has these questions:

  1. When issue happens, what is the action that end user is doing?
  2. It is happen on AC mode or DC mode?
  3. If happen on AC mode, does it happens at specific area or environment ?

Also, are you willing to install a debug firmware and reproduce problem again to get additional information?

Re: T480s touchpad intermittent sluggishness/lag

As far as I remember:

  1. I only drew circles or tried to aim some parts of the screen.
  2. I was on battery
  3. Nothing special.

Yes, I can try to install the debug firmware, please let me know where can I download that (is there any way to restore back the original FW if this does not work/get worse?).

Next week I try to go to service center and get the touchpad replaced if this does not help...
