T490 Left Touchpad Button Not Working

2020-07-22, 7:55 AM

Hello,

I have a T490 (Type 20N2). Just recently (I only just noticed it tonight), the button on the lower left area of the touchpad stopped working. If I move toward the bottom center of the touchpad, it operates as the left area should. But the left area is complete unresponsive to clicks. It isn't a huge deal since I can use a single tap in lieu of the left-click, but it just interrupts my habit of using the lower left button to left-click. The left and right-click buttons at the top of the touchpad still work. I've tried checking for system updates and installing them, uninstalling the Synaptics Pointing Device driver in the Device Manager (correct me if this was the wrong one), and restarting the computer (which automatically reinstalled it).

Any idea what might be wrong?

It appears that something got into the touchpad (possibly a crumb) and was making it go haywire. By tilting the laptop to the side and smacking it a bit, the issue seemed to go away.
