T490 after driver update external monitor resolution error

2019-09-09, 10:02 AM

Hi.

My lenovo T490 made a driver update few weeks ago, and since then, the maximum resolution for my dell u4919dw is 3840x1080 instead of 5120x1440. I have tried removing the graphics drivers and reinstalling them but still no luck.
If I connect to my thunderbolt 3 gen 2 dock the other t490 that we have with excact same specs, everything works fine..

Hopefully someone has had a similar issue and have found a solution as i havent been able to find a solution for several weeks.

Thank You in advance!

Betreff: T490 after driver update external monitor resolution error

I had a somewhat similar issue and connected my Dock to the screen using Displayport instead of HDMI, works well now.

I've tried everything, I have the latest drivers for everything, tried all connection types (usb-c, hdmi, display), with a doc, without a doc and the same results.  It maxes out at 3840x1080...kinda frustrating.  Not sure what else to do here...

Hello there! Let's try pressing the reset button at the bottom of the machine. Please check the attached photo. Let us know if it worked.

Re: T490 after driver update external monitor resolution error

Have the same problem and tried pressing the reset button according to above post (event though it's an odd suggestion as I was under the impression the reset button simply cuts power to the machine) but unfortunately it made no difference.

Trying to connect t490 to 5120x1440 monitor (dell uw4919dw) and max resolution I get is 3840x1080 which is unfortunate on such a new laptop with thunderbolt 3 ports and all.

Tried connections:

a) usb-c gen 1 -> usb-c

b) usb-c gen 2 thunderbolt 3 -> usb-c

c) usb-c gen 1 & 2 -> dp

d) hdmi -> hdmi

e) usb-c gen 2 thunderbolt 3 -> dongle -> dp

Max res works flawlessly from my older dell xps 13 using usb-c -> dp (which also means it's not the monitor that's at fault)

If a new T490 can't handle 5k external monitors which I was under the impression it could I might unfortunately have to return it unless it's just a configuration issue or faulty software waiting to be upgraded.

Any hints at where on could begin to troubleshoot is much appreciated.

Not sure how this would fix it, but I tried it anyway and no difference...I'm guessing this is a software bug.

Actually they switched the motherboard of the T490 at the warranty and after thatit works perfectly :)

PS there are two ports next to eachother. One USB C and thunderbolt make sure that You have it connected to the thunderbolt one :)

Sorry, what do you mean by "switched at the warranty"? You called support and they switched your motherboard using warranty?

And to be clear, now you're connecting laptop to monitor with a single cable without dock and you're able to get full res 5120x1440?

I have the same problem. I use usb-c, and cannot find higher res than 3840x1080.
Doesnt matter what I do, or whatever version of driver I use on the UHD620.
If anyone have found any solution other than switching motherboard, please share.
Thanks,

Re: T490 after driver update external monitor resolution error

I got the same problem just some days ago. Probably after some update, either Windows or Lenovo Vantage.
I have DELL U4919 and X1 Carbon 6th gen (maybe wrong forum...)
I can't set the correct resolution for the DELL-screen. It stops at 3840x1080, even though the screen supports 5120x1440.

And it all worked great up until some days ago.

Very annoying! :-(

Tried DP/HDMI/USB-C, but no luck.

Anyone found a solution?
(other than replacing motherboard)
