Re:T490 after driver update external monitor resolution error

2020-02-21, 7:05 AM

Yesterday, this thread had two additional pages with some useful information. From what I remember of those removed posts, the problem with T490 is BIOS related, and the solution requires Lenovo to release a new BIOS version for 5120x1440 resolution support.

There should be no technical limitation to add support for this resolution, as the total number of pixels in 5120x1440 is less than the officially supported 4K resolution 4096x2304. I do hope Lenovo will release a new BIOS for the T490, and other affected models and variants like the T490s, soon!

Re:T490 after driver update external monitor resolution error

there is loads of data missing on this thread and my associated thread is currently removed (hoping its being restored at some point and not removed).

As far as my experience on this is concerned, restoring back to April 2019 graphics driver sorts this out.

I have a similar issue with an X1C 6G and have an open complaint to Lenovo re their changed position on supporting DQHD resolutions.  I am waiting on formal response now.

Re:T490 after driver update external monitor resolution error

2020-05-21, 2:47 AM

I have been using T470s (intel i5-7300u + Intel HD620) + USB-C + Dell U4919DW with 5120x1440 60Hz 8bit resolution without problem until recently.  After installing the latest Intel HD graphics driver (26.20.100.7812) automatically downloaded by Lenovo Vantage software, it reconfigured the max resolution down to 3840x1080.

However, Dell has been releasing the Windows patch since a few months now to address the Intel HD Graphics 5k support.

This is basically a registry fix. It says for Intel HD630 but it also changed on my T470s max resolution back to 5120x1440 60Hz 8bit and working fine since then.  I am assuming to help the victims of this latest intel HD graphics driver update.

I recommend download and install Dell U4919DW Patch Update and reboot.  It should fix the issue even with the latest graphics driver.  Probably it's better to download and install, the latest FW, monitor driver etc to help correctly identify the display by the PC also which is what I have too.

Re:T490 after driver update external monitor resolution error

None of the above solutions worked for me.

I have a t490s with Intel uhd 620.  Intel custom resolution has worked for me for a Dell u4919dw.

Here is the link:  https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005540/graphics.html

By following the steps, I was able to setup 5120x1440 resolution and this resolution then appeared in Windows settings display.  So, by selecting it I was able to have 5120x1440.

I just got it working so not sure about long term stability yet.  Good luck.

Did you have to input any advances settings do get the custom resolution working? I have not been able to make it work.

When adding a (non-advanced) custom resolution I have to input:

  • Resolution
  • Refresh rate
  • Timing standard
  • Underscan %

But no matter what I try I get a popup with "the mode is not supported". I have the option of clicking advanced settings, but I have no idea what to input there.

I'm on a T490 with Intel UHD 620.

My current Intel driver is 27.20.100.861 which should be the newest, (I have tried several older drivers with no luck, so I'm sticking with the most up to date as default)

My BIOS is version N2IET87W (1.65 ) dated 07.04.20.

Same issue with the T15 Gen1 with a Geforce MX330 hooked up to a Samsung C49RG90 using USB-c.

Resolution only shows 3840*1080 instead of 5120*1440.

Sorry for the late reply.  I did not get any notices that someone has asked a question.  Recently, I did the windows update and it wiped out my settings.  So I had to do it over again.  Note that it has been stable working for me all this time.  I connect T490s to U4919 via USB C. Here are the details.

Intel drivers that I have been using are downloaded from intel here:  https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/126789

igfx_win10_100.8190 (I used this one for 3 months until windows updated wiped it out; it was stable)

igfx_win10_100.9030 (latest) (I'm using this one now).

Note that after Windows Update, I had some problems installing ifgx driver.  I saw a program "Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry" under Task Manager.  So I ended this task and the igfx then was able to be installed.  Not really sure if this step is really needed.

Install "Intel UHD Graphics Control Panel" program on your laptop. You should be able to find this program on intel's website.

Run Intel UHD Graphics Control Panel

Click on Display

Click on "Custom Resolutions"

Select Display --> U4919dw (Make sure to do this step.  Otherwise, it defaults to the laptop screen and it won't work).

Width - 5120

Height - 1440

Refresh Rate - 60

Click on "Add"

Now, go to windows display settings.  Select the u4919dw monitor.  Select the display resolution. It should work now. You might have to reboot.

You might have to try a few times.  But it works for me.  Good luck.
