T490 and 5120x1440 monitor resolution

2020-09-15, 21:18 PM

Got a new monitor (LG 49WL95C-W) with 5120x1440 resolution but i am unable to select more than 3840x1080.

Tried multiple graphics driver versions, from very older to lastest one at Intel web. Also tried the registry 5K patch and adding personalized resolution at the Intel Application. Nothing works.

Tried connection to USB-C ports, both Gen 1 and Gen 2/Thunderbolt ports, as well as HDMI.

Found this is a common random issue with UHD 620 graphics, but no solution works for me.

Hi Sycho, That's probably this Intel bug:

Already tried that driver. I have tried: 6709, 6860, 7926, 7985 and 8587 with same result.

Hmm this usually fixes this problem. You're never going to get full resolution via HDMI (per the LG user manual). So the choice is USB-C or DisplayPort. Make sure you have a good cable (I've had LG USB-C cables fail). Have you tried an Emergency Reset (button in pinhole on bottom)? That sometimes clears interface oddities. FWIW I know that UHD 620 can drive at least 5120x2160, I do it every day. Let us know how it goes!

Ok, i have ordered a new USB-C to USB-C cable.

However i have just booted a USB disk with Ubuntu 20.04 and it works at 5120x1440 flawlessly. This means the supplied cable should be OK.

try to define a custom resolution and reboot.

Tried the emergency-reset button. Nothing.

Tried to create a custom 5120x1440 resolution: when selecting it, sometimes it just goes blank and reverts to 3840x1440, others the output is set to 3840x2160 and the image is vertically stretched!

did you select CVT-RB as the  timing standard?   You may also try  59Hz instead of 60Hz.

Just got it working!!!

I tried custom resolutions at Intel Graphics Command Center and Intel Graphics Control Panel, as they were both already installed in the PC. Tried with GTF and CVT timming modes but never CVT-RB.

Now removed both softwares and installed Intel Graphics Control Panel again from Microsoft Store. Created a custom 5120x1440@60Hz and CVT-RB timing and it worked!

Maybe it was timing not being CVT-RB, or the Intel software version, but it works now!

For reference, driver is 27.20.100.8681 and Intel Graphics Control Panel is 3.3.0.0
