T490 and T590 touchpad issues

2019-07-22, 11:23 AM

When installing our new T490 and T590 through SCCM - and using the lenovo sccm driver pack, the touchpad is not responsive to gestures only button clicks - The Trackpoint works fine... Installing Lenovo drivers for mouse and touchpad after the installation does not help.

If I look at the driver in Device Manager, everything seems fine - There is a Synaptics Pointing Device present - but also some Microsoft HID Compatible touchpad drivers. If I remove the HID Compatible touchpad drivers - the touchpad starts working - but after a few restarts they are installed again and the touchpad is dead again.
Trying to manually install the Synaptics drivers for the HID Compatible touchpad - does not help.
Installing on Windows 10 1809

Seems that Windows 10 prefer Microsoft's own drivers for some of the Touchpad components.

Running DPinst from Windows Driver Framework to force the Lenovo drivers to be prefered - solved the issue.

Will this be solved in a driver update at some point?

This helped me too

Could you elaborate on how to set a driver as default via DPinst? I've been facing similar issues, but instead it's the 3 touchpad buttons that do not work.

I'd love to implement this solution too. Just been using the new T490 for a couple of days and the touchpad is already driving me nuts. Regardless of trying all different settings, the touchpad is still very un-responsive on smaller movements. If I only want to move the cursor an inch or so to hit a button, I have to drag my finger quickly which makes my accuracy crap. I've been a user of Lenovo touchpads for a decade (different laptop versions), but this is the first time I've experiences such a bad touchpad. In addition to small movements the touchpad feels just off in general too. Another example is that it seems the touchpad registers different "distance" if I swipe from bottom right to top left vs bottom left to top right.

For an ordinary user like myself, is this something I can do myself with DPINST?

Thankfor for help to take me out my misery,

Oskar

I used DPInst.exe /S /SA /SE /SW /F in the directory with the touchpad drivers from Lenovo.

All of our users are experiencing the same issue (poor responsiveness and terrible accuracy) running latest drivers available from Lenovo Vantage on all our new Lenovo T14 Gen 1 machines.  It's absolutely terrible.  They've ruined the trackpad.  We have users that want their old T460 units back.
