T490 no sound

2020-10-26, 8:28 AM

I have lost the sound on our T490.

I can see it in Device manager.

it is enable in BIOS(In security>Devices)

I have tried to switch out the Intel Smart Sound Controller with High Definition Audio as per the other topic in this forum without success https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-C740-14IML-Type-81TC-Sound-not-working/m-p/5026712?page=5

We have 3 more T490 this is happening to.

Hello Kimsand520

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to remedy the issue. My bet is that it's a Windows 10 Update that has messed up the Audio drivers.

Step 1. Speakers Settings:

Type "Sound Settings" into the search bar and click the result.

Click Device Properties under the "output" section of the speakers.

Select Additional Device Properties on the right side.

Check Enhancement tab and Power Management tab.

Make sure Enhancements are off and that the unit is not allowed to turn this device off to save power

And also uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"

In some scenarios. Check the box.

Step 2. Disable Automatic Hardware drivers update

- Right click the Windows Icon, select the "Search" Function.

- Type "Control Panel" and select "Small icons" or "Large Icons" in the "View By" top right.

- Click the "System Icon"

- Navigate to "Advanced System Settings" -> "Hardware"

- Click "Device Installation Settings" and Select "No"

**This will prevent Windows from interfering with your hardware drivers in future updates, but keep crucial security updates rolling.

Step 3. Manually Updating All Audio Drivers.

Press the Windows Key + X, or right click the Windows icon in the bottom left. Select Device Manager from the list.

Expand the following areas:

- Audio input and output   (Realtek Audio or similar)

- Sound, video and game controllers  (Realtek Audio or similar)

- Software components (Realtek Audio Effects Component and Universal Service if listed)

- System devices (Intel Smart Sound and/or High Definition Audio Controller)

**Note: Start from top to bottom

Update them by choosing from the driver lists on your computer, make sure to choose the most recent Audio related drivers you can find:

- Right Click the devices

- Select Update Driver

- Browse my computer for drivers

- Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer

- Select the most recent Audio related driver from the list for every device then Click Next

- Close confirmation dialog.

Now, in the event this does not help the issue, it's very hard to determine where any drivers went wrong, so to completely rule out it being a software problem or not, we'll perform a factory reset of the device as outlined below:

Step 4. Windows Reset/Recovery

- Please perform Step 2. before allowing any Windows update to take place.

Thank you.

I tried all the steps without success.

I also tried reinstalling it from stratch with Windows 10 1903 and still have the same symptoms.

This worked ok with the OEM image before i reinstalled it with clean Windows 10.
