Re: T500 (2082) Are all 3 USB slots USB2.0 and powered?

USB 2.0 should get around 20-30MB/s max. 75MB/s is usually due to caching screwing up the speed calculation.

USB 1.1 would limit you to some ridiculously low speed.

Re: T500 (2082) Are all 3 USB slots USB2.0 and powered?

I did a follow up test. I now think that the three external ports are pretty much the same speed. The speed I get in tests to each port is significantly faster than USB 1.1 would allow, so these must be USB 2. It may be that the ports are powered by a built-in hub that connects into one of the ICH9 enhanced USB ports. This is speculation with some reasoning. If somebody knows how those USB ports are driven in more detail, I would be interested in hearing.

Powere to the connectors was never in doubt to me, although I was not using that power for my problem. The whole reason that I am looking into the USB ports is that I am trying to use Windows Backup and Restore to a Seagate FreeAgent 3TB USB backup drive using the Windows 7 software. This works on my desktop computer, but it fails after a few hours on the T500 (2082).  Therefore I have been looking for things that might differ.

There is a USB selective suspend option in the advanced power profile settings.

One USB slot is marked with a bar, that means it is high powered so you can charge cellphones etc much quicker than normally ..... the question is: Which Intensity in A does this one have? Thanks
