T500 Fingerprint Reader Win 8

2013-05-26, 6:22 AM

Is anyone else having any issues with the fingerprint reader on Win 8 64 Bit on the T500? Windows is not detecting any biometric devices.

Are you able to see the fp reader in the BIOS?

I would try making sure it's enabled in the BIOS (I think it's under security and I/O port access or something like that, either way make sure it's not disabled, it shouldn't be disabled though since it never is by default as far as I know)

other thing to try maybe would be to re-install the fingerprint reader software.

I'm really curious as to when it stopped working and what happened right before since I have had problems with my fingerprint reader that I posted another thread about. (it's working now though) you didn't happen to have the laptop run out of battery or suddenly power off on its own before this happened did you? (and were you using swipe to power on?)

So I went into BIOS and ensured that it was all enabled (so yes, I guess the BIOS detects that there is a biometric device?)

Upon Startup, I get the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software pop up. I enter my password, and when I select a finger, it pauses for a second and gives me an error saying cannot enroll user, cannot update passport, cannot find fingerprint sensor device (all E7210005).

I'm wondering if maybe this is just because lenovo has not yet released the drivers for fingerprint software on Windows 8 yet? If so, is there any way around that (e.g. tricking the Win7 driver installer into thinking my system is running Win7)?

ok, try to go back into the BIOS and in the reset internal fp data chose to do so. If you experience an error where fp can't be found you have an hardware error and you have to contact support for a replacement of your fp reader.

Okay, I went back into BIOS and reset the internal fingerprint data, it didn't give me any error.

does it still not show up in biometric devices in device manager? I would try and re-install the fingerprint software as a last resort and then call support. (if it does show up you could uninstall the driver for the fingerprint reader and then re-install the fingerprint reader software as well) worst case you can just replace the fingerprint reader, which would require a replacemet of the palmrest/trackpad area. (not as scary as it sounds and if you have the part shipped to you only takes a screwdriver and a few minutes of work after carefully reading the service guide) I hope it's still under warranty.

I'm still really curious as to what happened right before it stopped working (and if you used the swipe to power on feature where you swipe instead of pressing the power button to turn on) since I think I've isolated a similar problem.

I would try typing in fingerprint in the windows start screen and see if anything shows up for lenovo.

you could also just install it directly from here http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/g1f814ww.exe

or install the lenovo system update tool which should install any missing drivers/lenovo software (in theory, not sure how well T500 is supportted in windows 8 to be honest) http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkvantage_en/systemupdate502-04-11-2013.exe

I actually have both installed, and have updated the software as much as I could. No dice :P

I have the software, but it still can't seem to detect the fingerprint device
