T500 random shut down

2009-02-24, 22:42 PM

We rolled out a batch of Lenovo T500s at our company within the last month that have a problem with shutting themselves down.  At first we thought it might have been an issue with the image we put on them, but this issue was starting to happen with T500s that we were using straight out of the box (no image).

We have tried a few suggestions from this board:

- RPC service recovery options were changed to Restart service

- Power options were changed to never

These remedies seemed to work for about a week, but to no avail, users are starting to get the random shut down issue again.

We had a Lenovo tech onsite for a display repair and told him about the issue, but he had no clue.

Because of this issue we are looking at going with another company for our laptop needs, since this seems like Lenovo has sent out a complete laptop series without any QA testing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thx

Welcome to the forum,

Are we talking about Vista or XP here?

Could you take a look at Windows' Event Viewer to see if you can find an error message at the exact moment the problem happens?

Thank you

OS = XP SP3

System Event Viewer shows the following error code at each time of shut down

Error - Event ID 7000 Service Control Manager

The service did not start due to a logon failure.

It does not give me a specific service in any instance of the shutdown.  Just the generic message above.

Thx

UPDATE:  Users are reporting the same sequence of events before the "random" shut downs.

Each user is reporting that when they lock their machine and come back to it and log in, about a minute after logging in the shut down occurs.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the update.

I guess that the computers are all on the same network?
