T510 (4313CT) Dock with db9 serial port?

2010-03-10, 19:25 PM

Looks like the T510 wont work with the 2504 dock. Does anyone know if there is a dock available to get a serial port? Or will I need to get an inconvienent card/usb adaptor?

They intentionally removed serial port in the dock series 3 to do Rip and Go.

I use a USB->Serial both on my T60 and T510. Series 3 dock/laptops is not backward compatible to series 2. I wish it was, now I have two docks sitting around.

As far as i know, there are two new docks and two new port replicators. None of them has a serial port.

- ThinkPad Port Replicator Series 3

- ThinkPad USB Port Replicator with Digital Video
- ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3
- ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3

The T400s, T410, T510 and the W510 do not work with older docking stations than 3rd Generation.

I had an old Minidock 2, and tryed to use it with my T510, but the Connector of the old docking station is bigger than the port of the T510. So it didn't work.

I do not know of any dock with serial port for T510 maybe an old USB replcator.

Maybe this one suits you:

s a shameRe: T510 (4313CT) Dock with db9 serial port?

well thats a real shame, without serial it's useless to me. I could just plug a monitor and usb serial adaptor into the notebook itself. I guess a dock would save me from plugging in 2 things instead of 1. But i dont think im that lazy.

Thanks a lot for the information!

Or keep a USB serial adapter plugged into the dock.  I agree, I like having the adapter on my T61 dock since I use legacy scientific equipment with it - but on the same dock at home with my T400, I have never used the serial.  I am sure that is true of most people today.
