T510 9-cell battery in poor condition after 65 cycles

2012-01-13, 21:19 PM

I haven't performed a battery reset, but I don't know how useful it would be in either case.

Anyway, this is a T510 CTO, battery details:

Manufacturer: SANYO

Manufacture date: 2010-04-26

First used date: 2010-06

FRU: 42T4799

Full charge capacity: 61.59 Wh (67%)

Design capacity: 93.24 Wh

Cycles: 65

It's been under 100 cycles and the battery is already at 67%. Is this just a defective product or are they all like this?

Sounds a bit defective. Can you try running a gauge reset? Note that a gauge reset on the 9-cell will take quite a while.

If you haven't performed  battery reset in over ~18 months, then the battery detail readings are basically meaningless.

Cheers,

depending on the battery, you may need to update the battery firmware if you haven't already done so.

Huh! That's interesting to note. Wonder if something similar is occurring to those that report super-quick discharge rates on their X220's, T520's and T420's!

The battery seems like it still holds a decent charge, so I'll perform a battery gauge reset later today and get back to you guys on what the refreshed capacity is (and whether it is actually defective or not).

Just to update (apologies for the double-post), I performed the reset, and all is good now. It must have been my high-battery-level charging (I use a dock) that caused this.

Shown full charge capacity is 81.84 Wh, which is 87.8%. Now I'm at 68 cycles. Thanks for the help, and I'm glad that my battery isn't defective .__.
