T510 BT laser mouse loses connectivity

2014-11-17, 0:40 AM

I have had no problems for the past several years with my Thinkpad BT laser mouse, but after recent updates it has been dropping and will not respond to Wizard discovery.  I found that using Fn+F5 power cycling the BT connection gets it back online.  Anyone know why this sudden issue and how to prevent it?

BTW:  batteries are fresh

Check in Services for two Bluetooth services. Try only having one running (or the other).

Thanks for your reply Colonel, but that is not the issue here.  I was able to resolve my problem by power cycling my laptop, but never had this issue before in 4 years of use.  My question remains:  What recent change(s) caused this sudden issue?  Perhaps the latest update?  [Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II /Windows 7 (64-bit)/ 6.2.1.3100 2/21/2014]

One thing I learned from this was the Fn+F5 quick step and to place a quick link to the Bluetooth Wizard in my Start folder so that when it drops my BT connectivity, I can regain pairing quickly without having to power cycle the computer.

There's your answer.  Don't update what doesn't need a fix.

If you have Restore Point set to a time before you updated, consider going back.  It would have to be something set by another program, or Windows Update, for example.

Something to consider in future:  Lenovo Update does not create Restore Points.  Use it wisely, and generally only if there's a fix or improvement you need that is described in the release notes.  If you have it set to automatic, turn that off, would be my recommendation.

I usually check the readme files before updating anything.  In this case, I think this driver autoupdated (Lenovo) because I don't remember doing a manual update until I got this issue.  It was only AFTER having the issue that I updated my driver in hopes the cause was an outdated driver.  The recent driver is not suspect... I think it may have been an earlier update since I am no longer having the issue.

Anyway, I can't argue with your opinion not to update things that are working properly.  This instance, however, was most puzzling, but as I mentioned, it may have been from an autoupdate, hence the question posed to the forum.  Specifically, has anyone noticed a spate of issues with any one of the BT updates?  The question is now moot.

I did pick up some valuable trouble shooting advice: 1) Ck power saving settings 2) Ck if other BT devices nearby 3) Ck driver updates 4) Use Fn+F5 5) Use BT Wizard for quick pairing assistance.

If you don't have LU configured for auto updating, then that shouldn't happen. Might want todouble check that setting.
