Re: T520(4240) Video Lags

tg2708,

Codecs are usually installed when the program updates itself.

Most programs alert you to new updates as soon as it loads as long as you are connected to the Internet when it starts.

Sometimes you can manually add/subtract codecs in certain media players.

Are you only using VLC and Media Center?

Do DVDs read in Windows Media Player?

Also, same question for you, are you using the driver from Lenovo or the one from Intel?

Re: T520(4240) Video Lags

2013-02-07, 11:58 AM

Hey dmckenzies,

These are the drivers I have now for my Intel HD and NVIDIA.

As you can see my Intel HD driver is different.

I have the 9.17.10.2932, whereas on the Lenovo website it is  the 9.17.10.2834.

See right side of the picture, it is mentionned on the control panel, and the scan from Intel HD.

So yes I have the driver from the Intel website.

For the NVIDIA, I have the same driver as the one on the Lenovo website.

Download_Lenovo_Graphix.png

The driver on the Lenovo website is only for Intel HD Graphics Driver (integrated).

Whereas my laptop is with a Discrete Graphic Card:

ComputerType_Billing.png

Which lead me to the conclusion that, there is not yet an update for the driver for T520 Discrete, on the Lenovo website. But there is one on Intel HD Graphic. Which might lead to a conflict?

One last thing I thought of, was a problem with the Flash Player.

I am on Windows 64bit, but Flash in 32. Can it create a conflict as well?

But to go back to your previous points:

• No my sound is correct when these lags occurs.

These lags appeared from the begining (I installed VLC 2.0, pretty much the same week I received the laptop).

They just got heavier the past weeks.

I just uninstalled VLC, but lags still remains.

• Windows media Center runs smoothly, I dont use it much to be honest.

• I am not using any other media players aside from VLC, WMP and WMedia Center.

• Chipset and BIOS, have they been updated too?

My Bios is 1.41, which the latest i think

CPUZ_CPU_Mainboard.png

But for the Chipset I am not sure where to look at.

I am usually using the Lenovo Solution Center to download the newest patchs.

To my knowledge there was none about Chipsets recently.

Thanks a lot! We are going trough it,

Machin

_Machin_

Here are the drivers for the chipset.

Is there any change from when your system is plugged in and when running on battery?

Try another media player program to see if those make any difference also.

I think the problem is to due to the drive turning off by itself because if I should eject and close it after a few seconds it shows that its turned off, and their is no setting that I can change to prevent it from turning off. Most of my updates are from lenovo but I do check the intel site from time to time to see if an update for the integrated graphics card and wifi has been posted.

Hey dmckenzies,

I have tried and it do not work. Because the last panel of the menu to download Chipster is incredibly complex,

i chose the All model and downloaded the one that seems to fit my configuration.

See image below.

ThinkPad_List.png

But after that, after installing the last one, the Intel AMT 7.1 Management Engine Firmware.

And while doing the cmd.exe command prompt as explained in the README it crashed.

A message said in the cmd.exe :

(I translate it iwas in French)

'FWUpdLcl.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external commad, a program or comand file.

The odd thing is, while I am in the cmd.exe and I am trying to look for it, it says that it does not find this

MEInfoWin.exe, whereas it is visible in my folder!

Cmd_Folder.png

This was my last step!

What else can I try?

You've helped me a lot already, I really thankfull you've spent times explaining all this to me!

tg2708,

Can you go into the Power Options and check the settings for Hard Disk, Sleep, and Multimedia Settings.
Adjust them and see of that makes a difference in how long your drive stays on.

It's deifnitiely no problem.

I just hope I'm doing enough to fix the issue

This was the driver I was speaking of in the last post.

Intel Chipset Support (WW)
g1ic09ww.exe
1.3 MB

README for Intel Chipset Support (WW)
g1ic09ww.txt
8.7 KB

Make sure those others drivers are uninstalled.

I apologize for not being clear on which one to use.

Re: T520(4240) Video Lags

Dear mckenzies,

After trying all possible solutions, these lags are still present, and got even more worse.

To sump my last steps:

1.

I have uninstalled both graphic card drivers (My NVIDIA NVS 4200M and my Intel HD Graphics 3000), and check if they are occuring without graphic card.

Without the graphic cards they are actually remaining, but way less.

But while using Windows Media player none appears.

2.

I have re-installed both graphic card with latest drivers, and installed the Intel Chipset Support (WW).

And yes they are still here. But now the delayed pixel line / lags went down to the middle of the screen, which is even more annoying!

So my conclusion is that it's coming from an hardware issue. Which should be solved by the support team.

So I will call them, describe the problems and I guess send the laptop for a complete check up and re-installation.

If you happend to have another solution don't hesitate to share it.

But I hope (quite sure) that is is coming from the hard drive, the memory etc...

Thanks a lot dmkenzies,

Machin

Re: T520(4240) Video Lags

Dear mckenzies,

I called the support this morning, after some times the person suggested that I do a complete reboot, I save my personnal datas, and then restart the machine by doin F11 > Rescue Recovery > Restor machine to factory default.

Because the odd things remain that it does not appears while playing movies on Windows Media player, or Windos Media gallery.

And the person on the phone suspect Flash to be the cause, but for this I need to do a clean reboot for the machine.

Thanks, not support yet!
