T530 non-WiFi model - Possible to add WiFi?

2014-06-17, 1:12 AM

Hi all,

I've been looking at a laptop at this link here : Laptop Link (T530 2394-BK4).

According to the retailer, this laptop does not come equipped with a WiFi card.

I would like to add this WiFi card here: Intel 7260 AC Dual Band 2X2+Bluetooth

My question is ...

  1. whether it is possible to add internal WiFi through a mini PCI-E card.
  2. Does the T530 come prewired with antennas? If so, how many antennas does it have, and do I have to buy it from Lenovo?
  3. I have heard that other adapters don't work unless they are the Lenovo version. Is this true?

1) Yes
2) Yes. I believe they all have 5 wires (3 for WiFi and 2 for WWAN)
3) True. You must use a Lenovo-branded card that was used in T530 and the 7260 is not available.

So going off of this parts list here (http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/t530_fru_bom.pdf), it looks like intel 6300 is the best option, with a part number of 60Y3233.

To confirm, this is all that I need? (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HR2AUK4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A144J9ZLNXXHC)

Is there literature that can confirm that all 3 WiFi wires are present in all models? I'm wondering how you can order a T series without a WiFi card to begin with...

the laptop is prewired so you wont have any issues.

i think looking at the specs from hte dealer that the laptop had a wifi device but they took it out to lower the price.

for literature ...hmmm,  you can check the hmm manual.

good luck

ps be sure u buy a lenovo approved part or u will face the "beautifull whitelist".

I understand this thread is dated but I was wondering what you ended up installing?

My latest experience:

Intel 7260AC DOES NOT WORK and the T530 BIOS throws an error

I bought the FRU 60Y3233 from http://www.ebay.ca/itm/221669331675?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 and it worked right out of the Box. There were 3 wires available for the Antenne and it works beautifully.

Let me know if you ever got an AC Card working?

Cheers,

GDS
