Hello,

Rarely when an OS update is in progress the system will require a number of reboots to fully install the updates or application software packages.  When you issue your software repository update command, (Under Terminal command line, I issue  sudo dnf upgrade)  does it respond with "nothing to do?"  Also rarely, the shutdown command can be set to the reboot option, are you sure the reboot option is disabled? Sometimes there are multiple places to set options, and every one of them needs to be set the same way.

I use Fedora Linux, and have never experienced issues with anything, everything seems to be properly configured on that Linux distribution.  Try booting a Live USB from Fedora and see if the behavior continues.

Sincerely,

Usedtoberich

Re:T530 random restart after shutdown. Linux.

Just saw this. Sorry. I either didn't get notified or missed it. Thanks for your reply.

I just did a complete rebuild of the SSD using gparted to wipe it and reset the GPT, and then install Win8.1 to establish the necessary first 3 tiny partitions (EFI, etc, etc), and then installed Win10(2004), and then installed Mint 20 and so far it has not spontaneously restarted after shutdown.

If you try this, NEVER select the boot to windows boot manager line from grub-menu!!!!! It will hose the wbm. Permanently. I always clonezilla before adding Mint. (I did a LOT of clonezilla-ing that day!!!)

Always, whenever you want to boot to either of the 2 windows, interrupt bios (for me that's F12) and choose win boot mgr. Then it will show the 10 or 8.1 choice screen. I find I have to go through bios twice to get to 8.1 . Minor inconvenience since I use either win so rarely.

Been a very long time since I started with a totally clean disk.

Note, it is MUCH simpler if you only have 1 win partition. then grub works fine. But I wanted to see if win10 would install - I seem to check in to it about every 6 months. I would never use it. BTDT! But at least now it boots to a win7-like desktop so they are learning. Slowly. Still not good for me.

I was thinking you might have something with the "update" thing so after last update I shutdown and yes it spontaneously started up, but had an update this morning and then shutdown but it just sat there - did not spontaneously start up.

So, don't know...

Re:T530 random restart after shutdown. Linux.

I believe/have found that this is an artifact of Ubuntu/Mint linux suspend.

In power settings I had chosen/default when lid closed, do suspend.

I changed that to lock and problem went away.

Can also be induced by systemctl suspend .Marked solved.
