T420s ethernet adpater (Intel 82579LM gigabit) not working - WAN miniport (Network Monitor) #2 error

2013-07-22, 19:44 PM

I just started having a similar problem with my T420s, but my wireless adapter is functioning properly - it's my ethernet adapter that has stopped working. Dev Man shows an error with the WAN Miniport (Network Monitor) #2 with the same message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"

I bought this T420s Feb 2012 w/ Windows 7, and upgrade to Windows 8 as soon as it came out. No problems until now. I don't remember making any changes immediately before experiencing this error.

I have tried Troubleshooting, removing the drivers, and updating the wireless and ethernet drivers through Lenovo System update / the website, checking Windows updates, and restarting the computer between attempts. No change.

It seems like many other users are having this problem, so I hope this is a software problem and not a hardware problem. Not really sure what to do next.

EDIT: Wireless adapter is an Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN. OS is Windows 8 Enterprise 64-bit.

Hi! Thanks for the quick reply, and sorry for my late response.

I ran the FixIt and it resolved the driver problem, but I have been unable to test the adapter because I am traveling. However, it caused my biometric "TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode)" to display an error. I tried the fingerprint scanner, and it still works normally to turn on the computer and log me into Windows 8.

I will probably try to troubleshoot this later, but it is not a high priority, now that the ethernet adapter should function properly.

Thanks for the help!

The same thing happened to me when I ran the fixit tool. I'm not sure why since there doesn't appear to be any relationship of the fingerprint reader to the mini wan port. I rebooted & re-ran the fixit tool and it cleared it up. Both are fine now and no new ones were created. Good luck !

The microsoft fixit tool fixes the problem and then disables fingerprint reader. run it again and fingerprint reader will work but something else gets broken.

I had to run it about 6 times before everything was "fixed".

I still have a problem lenovo...

The little yellow triangle is gone now but my wifi connection is still jacked up. It says I am connected to the internet but I will get randomly disconnected from servers and games and when I try and reconnect the client that I am using will say that it can't connect. Wait a few minutes and it will work again and in about 5 - 15 minutes it will drop connection again.

There have been people posting about this since December of last year. 7 months this problem has existed and there is no fix? That is unacceptable in the tech world.

HI all,

thanks for posting your concerns in regards to this issue. As you can see at the moment there are multiple solutions to get this issue corrected. Our teams have been checking up on this case and it appears to be caused by the Microsoft update to Windows 8. However to give a clearer direction, I would suggest you to follow the link below in order to get this issue solved. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2871372

This is a guide from Microsoft to get this issue resolved. For the moment I will be marking this post as the solution to give other Customer a clear direction on how to solve this specifically. If this is not found to be the correct resolution,we unmark this and continue to look further into the issue.

More complete information on the device manager issue here.

Regards

Nine: that's helpful for some, but not all of us. I'm indifferent to the WAN error, but what continues to plague me--and I consider it quite serious--is the ongoing issue of the wireless card shutting off randomly; sometimes multiple times in a day, sometimes not for days at a time. Using the windows troubleshooting program resolves this, but it is really quite unacceptable.

I would consider this problem NOT resolved, and would ask that you mark it so.

Max221,

I appreciate that your symptoms are more impactful and remain, however we are trying to close out one of the 2 original concerns related to the title on this thread.   A formal Lenovo tip is being released with more details and we'll update Nine's post.

If we leave this thread unsolved and everyone continues to pile on with different wireless performance problems, it will go on indefinitely and create the perception that the yellow bang issue was next addressed by Lenovo even after XX months - I've already seen those comments.

I'll start a new thread focusing on the Wifi drops and move the messages relevant to that branch there and put more focus on getting it resolved as its own unique issue.
